Fans salivating for a new episode of Stargate SG-1 this Friday night will have to wait -- and wait at least two more months, according to Showtime's recently published schedule. The network will continue to show reruns of the show's fifth season through the month of February, as it decides when to bring its new show Jeremiah to the airwaves.
Jeremiah is Showtime's newest science fiction series, and will be run with the network's last 10 new episodes of Stargate to help boost its ratings, according to programming executives. The series -- executive produced by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski -- was postponed from a January 11 premiere to either March or June when the network decided that its post-apocalyptic tone was inappropriate so soon after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The February schedule includes "The Tomb" (Feb. 8), "Between Two Fires" (Feb. 15), and "2001" (Feb. 22). There is no episode scheduled for Friday, Feb. 1.
Showtime's failure to schedule new episodes of Stargate SG-1 in February makes March 1 the likely date for the start of new episodes, since its rights to the series expire in June when SG-1 moves to The Sci-Fi Channel.
In each of its previous four seasons, new episodes have commenced on the first Friday of the new year, following the Fall reruns.
The last new episode of Stargate to air in the United States was "Wormhole X-Treme!", which premiered nearly four months ago, on Sept. 8. New episodes have been airing in the United Kingdom since early December -- and will conclude Feb. 6, when broadcaster Sky One plans to air the Season Five finale.
