What exactly is the N.I.D. ?

The F.B.I. and the C.I.A. I am familiar with - in a manner of speaking - but even a web search has turned up nothing remotely relevant to our favourite programme.

Is it something that's been specially invented for the prog.?

T.I.A.

Best wishes,

Dunno the answer to that... all I can say is that since I've seen 'Shades of Grey' it's been bugging me too.

Ah....

I've always thought NID stood for Nitwits Idiots and Dimwits, considering how they botch stuff (but then, if they didn't, Teal'c would be in jars in a lab...).

I'd love to see that particular thread in Stargate vanish. If I want conspiracies, I'd tune into X-Files (at least until it ends this spring).:p

I believe that it just was made up for the Series. It has been with us since Singularity... remember that is when Colonel Harry Maybourne made his first appearance.

Thanks All. :) Glad to know I'm not the only one who was baffled by that :D

'Nitwits, Idiots and Dimwits'! Love it, Prion6!

Best wishes,

folks have also called it
national intelligence division
nitwits in dresses
numbskulls in danger

Guys..... I hate to burst your cute little bubble, but the NID really does exist and it wasn't just created for the show. Having said that, the meaning that Stargate gives to NID is rather different from what it does. NID stands for National Institute of Defence. among other things, this organisation holds documents relating to things like Gulf War Illness research. It's where I get my documents from.

The NSA (National Security Agency) are the folk responsible for places like Groom Lake and Area 51. They are the government agency with a heavy security agenda.

Stargate obviously wouldn't have been permitted to refer to the fairly high profile NSA in their show, but the milder, lower profile NID would have probably been acceptable.

Well, thank you very much for that, Anni :) I hope your cennection with them is not one of personal necessity, given that you mention Gulf War Illness :(

I have since heard the rather cynical option of Nazis in Disguise...
<shiver> :fangs:

Thanks Anni, I knew about the National Security Agency but not about the National Institute of Defense.... I didn't ever think ofthat as having a connection to any Stargate related matter.
