Negative comment worries? Hmmmmm...

So it's alright to slag people in a general fashion as long as you don't use specific names? One must wonder about that reasoning.
Admittedly, I've only seen one thread where a "certain person" was expressing his opinion but that opinion offended me and I said as much.
I will not walk on eggshells to protect someones "feelings" but I also have no interest in starting fights. A fight is not constructive...a disagreement over opinion can be constructive if one remembers that each is entitled to their opinion. The aforementioned "certain person" is entitled to his opinion but because I happen disagree with it does not mean I am a bad person....or that I may owe him an apology.
Those that were truly rude (and one assumes you know who you are) may perhaps benefit from these words of wisdom:

***Always keep your words soft and sweet, because you never know from day to day which ones you'll have to eat***

Besides, we have Anni to be our reasoning conscience for us. (and we love her for it:D)

As for the slagging of the other cons.....I think Gatecon is the best Stargate convention. But since I have never been to another Stargate con, that's an uninformed opinion. Until I manage to get to a different one tho, that's the opinion I'll hold.
Who cares whose con is best tho? Does it really matter in the scheme of things? Is the world a better or worse place because some say Wolf is the better event, while others maintain BOBW rules? The events are simply what they are....events. It's the people who make the event. If cons are going to turn into simple games of one-upmanship then why bother?
It's not about who has the "best" con....it's about the fun you have at *any* con.

A thread about negative comment worries was already started and closed , i for one am sick of hearing people whining and complaing etc etc , please don't start another tread about this no one wants to hear it .....

LOL...... Mordy.... I'm not sure that's actually up to you!

The one thing that I like most about this forum is that in the main, opinions.....all opinions... are most welcome, as long as they are not offensively written or written with offensiveness in mind.

The one thing I have noticed and prevalent in most forums and lists is a habit displayed by a lot of people to 'tell' people not to do things or post things..... there is an assumption made that unless an opinion suits the reader then it's not worth anyone putting down on paper. For example, if someone doesn't want another person to even mention one of the actors (mostly La Shanks) because they don't want to hear about it, then they slam the poster, when in fact, there may well be someone out there in posting land who really does want to read what is written. Likewise they may wish to respond in kind, or with an opinion of their own. But then they get too scared to because they don't like getting flamed or hate confrontation, so they stay quiet.

On many lists now, so many subjects are taboo and banned, that it's difficult to know what to mention and what not to mention. So the lists end up with postings that consist of these weird disjointed conversations about sending hugs and kisses to each other, strange unintelligible 'in-jokes' between the participants and god help anyone who posts an opinion on Stargate or one of the producers, actors or writers that doesn't meld with the general thoughts on anything.

This forum has never been like that, and it's why I've stayed with it, because here I can say what I feel (without hurting anyone of course!) and for the majority of the time, I will get a coherent, rational and spirited argument back, which usually carries on to a natural end without someone getting on their high horse or world war 3 breaking out. But even if it does, it can be brought back down to earth quickly too.

If Thanatossg9 wishes to express an opinion about something and doesn't flame anyone in the process, what skin is it off anyone's nose if she/he (sorry darling, don't know if you are a girl or a boy!) posts a new thread. If there are people who don't want to rehash it......then simply don't read it in the first place.

I don't want to slam anyone for control over their own thread on the board, but I felt the issues never really reached a resolution because some pretty fair, informed opponions and ideas "disappeared" off of that said thread. A one post thread is not a discussion IMHO. That said, I pick and choose what I want to read about off of the lists here.

Mordy....your definition of whining and complaining must differ from mine. I was not aware of either in my post. I am simply expressing an opinion. Since when is opinion evil?

I suppose an opinion would generally be construed as worthless by one who does not share it....
I will not be told to withhold my opinion by some disembodied typist halfway around the world from me. I will however now discontinue my practice of posting to this site.

Anni and CynVision...I will miss you most.

Regards,

Thanatos SG-9

I think you just totally misconstrued what mordy was saying.
He wasn't criticising you for expressing an opinion at all.
He just said that he was sick of the issue.

Oh I just can't resist:evil:

If you're sick of an issue feel free NOT TO RESPOND TO THREADS ABOUT IT!!!
Kinda doensn't make sense...but I could be wrong

 :D :rolly2:

And in another thought.....why does one person feel they have the ability to dictate what others discuss?

There are a few threads here where I find the topics to be tedious and uninteresting....and you know what? I don't bother reading them and I certainly don't reply to them!:alienooh:

As with any Internet thing, you have to take the knee-twitch reactions. Sometimes you post and you have a bad day and just can't resist giving your $.02 . That's what I'm thinking Mordy was doing. So while I make that sort of assumption, I hope it's not taken as negative. And, thanatossg9, you stick around here.

No i wasn't having a bad day , shelby got it right with what i was saying , there was a previous post called Negative comments etc and one of the admins delted all the posts and close the thread because it got too out of hand and thats what will happen if this happens all i'm saying is give it a rest because i was sick of hearing it....

Mordy...Again one wonders why, if you are "sick of hearing it", you are even responding to this thread? I suppose that being noticed is terribly important to some people.....

Unlike you I missed the contents of the previous thread because I had better things to do (can't remember now what they were, but they were important at the time).

Anyhow the urge to flame is becoming overpowering, so I think I'll be off:evil:

Out of hand? I'm thinking that some people can't take pressure and truth about the behind-the-scenes grit of Gatecon 2001. Yes, yes, talking about what happened that was less than desirable can be seen as a potential turn-off or negative publicity, but we started that thread off with Allan supposedly being even-handed. If they didn't want replies... learn how to lock a thread into an announcement only.

We're supposed to just take the good with the bad? I'm not happy with that. That just perpetuates the bad next year. No way the organizers of Gatecon can be everwhere at once. They came back in September saying: don't pull no punches, we want to be better next year. I guess they got tired of the truth. And they got tired of the viciousness of people that had some illusion that Gatecon was a fairy-land, maybe? If they don't like to hear about it they can do like we keep telling Mordy: don't read. But at least we'll not let con newbies think they're walking into sweetness and light when there are a few things to keep in mind when waltzing into Gatecon.
