Transmitting energy through a wormhole

Hey. I've just seen a Sesaon 1 repeat on Sky the other day, and I'm wondering about a technical detail. The episode in question is "There But For The Grace of God". This is the one where Daniel touches a "mirror" and finds himself in a screwed-up, alternate reality version of Earth. If you haven't seen it, THIS IS A POSSIBLE SPOILER THREAD SO GO BACK NOW!!

Anyway, I am wondering; at the end of the episode, when Danny gates to the alien world with the "reality mirror" device, the wormhole he jumps out of on said planet is still established when the alternate SGC (well, actually the SGA) is in the process of a nuke-lear Xpl0sion (well, a blinding flash of light, caused by the self-destruct sequence, which I assum is a nuke). Why doesn't the energy from the explosion travel through the gate, and blow up the planet Danny is now on (or at least, destroy the room he's in)?

I've seen an episode in Season 4 (?) where the NID kicks Hammond out and replaces him with a *ss-h*le who wants to test a naquadah-enhanced nuke on an alien planet. When they detonate, they can't disengage the wormhole, and radiation starts leaking through the wormhole. WHY does'nt this happen in There But For the Grace of God?

Coz the writers like to be confusing?

:dead: :disturbed

Nah, it's because in TB4tGoG, alternate reality Teal'c shoots Dr.Jackson in the shoulder as he's jumping through the event horizon. The wormhole disengages, and you see teal'c in full Jaffa suit and ponytail walking in as you hear "self destruct in 3... 2... 1.. *white light*".the balst didn't affect the mirror planet because the wormhole was disengaged.

Although the answer above is clear enough, there are also THEORETICAL answers: since the Earth gate is not fully functional with DHD etc., the writers could always argue (probably through Sam) that the SGC power supply or something would be affected by the blast to destabilise the origin-gate, and thus stop most of the blast going through the wormhole...

That's not how I remember it. The SGC went *white flash of light*, then Danny came out of the StarGate on the alien planet. The camera followed Daniel as he ran to the room with the lab, and as the Stargate (in the background of the camera's view) passed out of sight, the wormhole had clearly not disengaged.

I guess one of usis going to have to watch the DVD... ;)

Okay - lets hear it for DVD compared to VHS... (sfx: breathing hard from running upstairs)

Have just skipped forwards to Daniel being shot as he jumps through the gate. Camera pans back to Teal'c and the gate is clearly HEARD to disengage. Behind Teal'c the control room shutter is going up, and we see the brightness of the gate go out VISIBLY in time with the sound of the gate disengaging. The countdown is somewhere between 10 and 9 or so...

OK I stand corrected. Must b because I wasn't watching it on DVD, then . . .

Oh, please, be seated...

I doubt that the medium had much to do with it, except possibly clarity of vision (i.e. seeing the removal in flickering wormhole effect from the control room window) or clarity of sound (wormhole disengaging) - though the latter is SO clear I don't imagine unless you have a VERY bad tape that it would not be audible...:(
