Why didn't the Goa'uld dial the Giza gate after 1928?

So how come the Goa'uld never tried dialling the Giza gate between 1928 and 1997? We know (e.g. Thor's Chariot) that they DO re-dial blocked or potentially lethal gates and send "volunteers" through to see if they are now passable.

Maybe they do it in intervals. Perhaps in Thor's Chariot, the people just got unlucky. Or maybe it was a sign of boldness - to go to a planet that no goa'uld has ever returned from.

I have a feeling Tealc explains to SG-1 that the Goa'uld DO send their, er, volunteers, through to sites that tradtionally have been death-traps, such as to Cimmeria...

didn't it get buried or something? cover stones? or an i getting mixed up?

Yes, it WAS buried under coverstones. Anything within the event horizon would stop it engaging... BUT, what happened AFTER 1928 when it was uncovered and dug out. It would be free to engage if dialled.

Since there is no implication that Apophis knew it was us who killed his brother Ra, he must have been trying the Earth gate periodically. Is it pure luck he didn't try in the thirties, or fifties. Imagine is Hitler or one of the Russian leaders during the Cold War had been a Goa'uld...:(

That woudl explain a lot it Hitler was a gould.. i mean look at it.. i wanted a perfect race and he wanted world domination like a god... is that what a gould would want????

But we have also seen that every single Goa'uld uses "traditional" Goa'uld technology, both personally and distributed to close/trusted aides. They want total domination, not the "permitted" adoration of sycophants and lieutenants. Goa'ulds are not the type to have generals - they rule absolutely, with a First Prime and then an army... and are absolutely treated as a total deity. And death to non-believers. I am not sure Mr.H went that far!
