Preparations for the 2002 Winter Olympics were thrown into disarray yesterday when Star Trek: The Next Generation's Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) announced his last-minute intention to 'Make It So' as the captain of the first Star Trek bobsled team.
Stewart will lead fellow cast members Jonathan Frakes (Will Riker), Brent Spiner (Data) and Michael Dorn (Worf) on the daring mission, Zap2it reported.
"We live to luge," said Stewart, who did not disclose whether Starfleet uniforms would be required for this particular exercise. The veteran actor will sit in front, followed by navigator Spiner. Frakes will act as ballast, while Dorn will sit at the back due to his upper body strength.
It is expected Dorn will drawn on his Klingon training to strike fear into the hearts of their competitors. "Michael can push," said a confident Spiner. "I've seen Michael push."
Despite their inexperience, Starfleet's finest are unfazed by the world-class competition. "After you've faced off against the Borg, the Swedes aren't really much of a problem," said Frakes.
No doubt there will be plenty of Tea, Earl Grey, Hot to go around after the race.
