I was just over at scifiguide and found Darren's posted a great article on the current fandom situation. I hope he doesn't mind me posting the link here but I think it's a valuable read - puts alot into perspective and certainly a relevent topic with the current "atmosphere".

Wow, that was the most amazing article I've read in a long time.

I thought all that stuff about whats happening in the fandom was in my head and I was just being paranoid. Obviously not if everyone else sees it too.

Better article than Salon. Biased in it's own way by having indepth knowledge of all the divisions.

There is no mass exodus from fandom, and The Sci-Fi Channel will see no massive erosion in viewership next season.

Let me do the math.

No erosion next season only because the flight of American viewers will have been accomplished by the end of this season by Showtime and MGMs bad business practices. There's nowhere to go but up when the network switch is made. The anticipated numbers hike generated by gaining a bunch of folks that have never subscribed to Showtime isn't reflective of people being "gained back" because they like it, it's a whole new audience! It's not the same!
