I've actually never read his books....

...but my sister has. That's the only thing I can contribute to the thread. She read "Jurassic Park" and liked the movie version better because the grandfather was so heartless in the book.

I like the book more because it isn't a special effects-laden piece of Hollywood tripe.

The book is great. It has a suspencefull story, well-crafted characters, and uses real science in a way that it becomes clear to the layest of laymen. If you liked the movie, then you should probebly start watching better movies, but if you know a good book when yousee one; this is the book for you!

The 'Jurassic Park' book is much better than the film, it makes much more sense -- the reason the mathematician going is explained -- though I do like Jeff Goldblum's version better.

There was other things left out, like the Dinos that escaped on their way to the island.

As for the sequels, they are just silly!

I've read a lot of Michael Crichton's books, and he must write them with a film in mind, they are always so vivid, you can just see a film producer/ director reading it and immediately wanting to make it.

I actually read Jurassic Park and The Lost World before seeing the movies -

Loved JP, Lost World was garbage - it was bad, bad, bad - and the movie for it was worse -

Main reason I didn't like Lost World - my fave character from JP was MIA - how can ya have a sequel to the dino book w/o Dr. Grant? I loved him in the book! Didn't like Ian in the book tho - he was a worry-wort; so I'll agree w/ Dave on the Jeff Goldblum point - tho I don't really like JG - he was good as Ian - made Ian a fun character - but only in the first movie, the 2nd movie - there was nothing that could make that one any good.

I've read a couple other Michael Crichton books - "The Andromeda Strain" and something else - sorry, can't recall the title off the top of my head ----
