BIG spoilers for episode six "The Abyss"

Hey thanks for the link...it looks like it could be a good episode! :D

Twenty-two. And they bring him "back" in ep 6 or 4 depending on when it actually gets aired. That's not enough time at all to write anything good about his "leaving" or build up suspence for his "return." Despite the good deeds he's going to do for Jack, it's a cheap shot at the people accepting him gone and a small "oh please watch the show, don't leave us" plead to the rabid Danny fans. There. That's what I'm trying to say.

ya, I agree with you there. However much I want Danny-Boy to come back, 4 or 6 eps doesn't give us enough time to grieve

[And strongly the kill or not to kill argument]
one of the weakest parts of the show is that they always win.

Taking some of the other current fantasy series with multi-episode story arcs (e.g. Buffy) there are many times when even though they win the day, something "bad" or "real life" still happens (various relationships breakign down irrecoverably, people dying [and staying dead], breaking genuine friendships that take proper time to get back etc.). In my view this is missing from SG-1, and would a little more realism.

Well, given that in 5 years everyone they brought in that fans grow to "love" "disappears" for episodes at a time or dies (except for Jacob or Bra'tac) they don't have a whole lot of long-term relationships to "play with" do they? One way or another, one show writer knew the value of the J/D relationship enough to give the fans of it one more little taste.

The SG-1 universe died a longer time ago than anyone thinks. After surviving season one, the PTB could have done something. Back at the outset of season two, I think there was the lightbulb going off over heads for where to take the series. But there was some conflict with the show's premise of following SG-1 that prevented any characters being added and kept in the series. (besides Bra'tac and Jacob. And don't get me wrong I luv them.) The tendency to throw cheap thrill, death plots in as a version of the "real life" conquences you're mentioning, offsets the TV universe practice of stretching conflicts over entire seasons.

The producers (whether they knew it or not) also established that fab four can't be seen as clashing very early on in the series. Things took a hell of a long time to get cooking, IMHO. Jack and Daniel clashed a tiny bit since season 2. Jack and Sam had difficulties over orders and intentions. But it took to season three and four for it to surface openly. It took to season four finale for Teal'c to be anything but a biddible background character and for Jack to be astonished by something Teal'c did (the Jaffa revenge thing) and he actually got to yell at him. And I note that it didn't stop Teal'c from doing what he wanted. Has Sam ever gotten steamed at Daniel or Teal'c at all? Why is Teal'c so dratted tag-along-puppy? (maybe all this gets addressed in season 5, but I'm in syndication land here. So don't mind me if it does.) Near all the "bad hair days" happen off-camera (in fan fic) and that's just not right! That's the sort of stuff that's interesting to me. And maybe to a few other folks who got tired of the week-to-week Justice League type superhero episodes...
