The first episode of the second season, and Star Trek's "Halloween" edition for 1967! As a result, also one of the silliest! In the third season we got 'Spock's Brain', of course. Chekov's first appearance.
On planet Pyris VII Kirk, Spock and McCoy find a haunted house, and Sulu and Scotty, who have become zombies. The alien special effects were made using blue fluff, pipe cleaners, feathers and crab pincers, and quite honestly it shows. The black threads which operate the puppets are clearly visible. Only the pig-masked Tellerites in "Journey to Babel" are worse.
There is an amusing moment when they are chained to a wall. Kirk begins to refer to McCoy as 'Bones', then notices a skeleton also chained up. He cocks his head sideways to mimic its position, then continues as if nothing happened, and later only refers to McCoy as 'Doc'.
