The Australian newspaper published an article on March 7, 2002. It was about television shows and how some of them are being axed and about fan backlash to the axeing of paricular shows.

Stargate got a breif mention pertaining to Michael's departure. Here's an exerpt:

Meanwhile, viewers of MGM's science fiction series Stargate SG-1 have been even tougher. A few months ago, the popular Dr Daniel Jackson was killed off when actor Michael Shanks decided to leave the cast, unhappy with the show's direction. The mostly female viewers who shared his opinion (and grieved his passing) have since organised their own international cyber campaign, drowning MGM in protest phone calls – more than 1000 calls within the first day – and raising thousands of dollars to establish a campaign website and buy protest ads, including a full page in the trade journal The Hollywood Reporter.

Viewers feel that the series has been "dumbed down", as witness the promise to replace Dr Jackson with "a handsome hunk". As a viewer named Paula wrote to the producers: "How could you hope to replace a complex, three-dimensional and so very human character with just another pretty face? You thought that was enough for us. It isn't!"

The Stargate campaign is especially passionate, but TV has that effect on people. Nonetheless, email protests don't always work.

hmm... there are a couple of ways that you can interpret the article

I havent read the rest of that article, but the part that Shelby posted, to me, doesnt say anything about show getting axed..that was only about MS leaving.....not about Stargate getting taken off...

I dont think any tv stations really care about what fans of tv shows theyve taken off say..no matter how hard its pressed, their decision is usually final....it sucks, but not much we can do but complain really!

I didn't mean to imply that I thought Stargate was going to get axed or anything. That's jsut what the article was about. The MS bit just implied that alot of fans aren't happy with the way TV stations handle the screening of shows.

Plus it was a Stargate article in an Aussie news paper, how often do we see that? So I though Ã'd just share it.
