Near Pollux IV a large hand grabs the Enterprise. The god Apollo is the last of a band of space travellers, who once lived on Mount Olympus on Earth. He declares the crew his children who must worship him. He gets upset when they reject him, and loses his physical form to join his fellow gods.
The first episode with an "ancient astronaut" theme, one with has re-occurred through all Star Trek series, as well as 'Stargate' and 'Battlestar Gallactica' and other scifi series.
In this episode Sulu adjusts the tractor beam to repel. This capability of the tractor beam was lost somewhere in the years that follow, because everyone is suprised when Wesley Crusher uses it in 'The Naked Now' TNG. But Wesley goes to all his Starfleet history lessons like a good student should!
