A sonnet. Does the meter work?

Prodigy’s Folly

Failure has always been result to me.
Bringing me everything but pure glee;
In all I have so greatly tried to do,
The result has come; a depressing view.
Those who possess the knack to succeed,
Cause my self within to soften and recede.
Into darkness I trudge; always despise.
Scoffing at my own cowardly demise;
A new chance, maybe I shall receive,
But there is no faith leading to believe.
From that day on, I will strive forever.
Not once glancing from my new endeavor.
But until this most longed for time has come,
I will proceed on; life’s ephemeral drum.
