How does the Enterprise "clean itself?"

Maybe they have little robots like in the Fifth Element? The computer "beams" away stuff it considers trash? Self-vacuuming carpets? Helper monkeys?
Enquiring minds want to know.

did any of the other series' have cleaning crews?

i don't recall - and no one who goes to the 'mess' or '10 Forward' to eat ever puts trash anywhere - we never see the end of a meal (or do we? i think there might be one TOS ep where someone puts a tray of 'garbage' somewhere) --

interesting question ----

i have seen them put their left overs and trash back into the replicator...

I don't remember where i read it but I read somewere that the replicator can recycal (sp?) left over food and the plates and cups and stuff

i belive your right dru.. Thats the reason they put it back in the replicator

now that you mention it -- i think i may have seen it more often that i'd thought ---

however - are we still looking for 'how does the place stay so clean'? ie: does something vaccuum the floors? and corridors? is there a voice command - "Computer, vaccuum"??

Well maybe they have tiny little robots that.....no...waite that's Andromeda... ack I don't know!

Its probley just a plot hole that no one on the show thought about.
I mean the writers don't obsess every detail like we the fans do.

they obsess, okay, maybe not obsess, but they're concerned about more of the 'tiny' details than you would think --

i read one time that the ppl at Stargate - the ones who do props and such - were working on the DHD and couldn't find a way to make all 39 glyphs fit, so they decided to take one out thinking 'no one would notice' -- guess what?

they were WRONG! someone DID notice - and pointed it out to all the fandom --

so - they think about stuff - sometimes - they just don't think anyone will ever noticed that they 'skimmed' over some small detail --- they need to remember that the fans have a LOT of time to pour over the shows and notice things like that -- it's what fans do! :)

The ST TNG Technical Manual has a section on the Enterprise D waste management 12.5, page 146.

Water and Sewage is treated as we do today, but then further treated and the water reused. The solid residue goes to the food synthesisers. Solid waste is transported to three processing units and matter replication recycling is employed.

Enterprise does not have matter replication recycling. It is not nearly so advanced, so Neo's question still stands!

Well WEll WEll... The plot thickens

It doesn't say.

It said there is a linear induction utility conduit system to take solid waste to the three recycling centres on decks 9, 13 and 34.

Someone still has to clear tables to put the rubbish into the system.

I've never seen anyone clearing tables in 10-Forward.

How does the floor get swept? If it's robots, we've never seen those either.

That's how I would design it, and it would be interesting to see, but would only be written if part of a story.

I see it now, the waste management computer goes haywire, attacks crewmembers and recycles vital equipment!!!

I have seen waiters clearing tables in 10 forward

I've see the waiters too, but I've never seen them sweeping the floor.
:blpaw:

The cleaners are probably the same poor sods that get to stick all the black and twisted bits together again between shows.

During the show itself we never see them because they have drawn an extended (and highly deserved) rest.

never seen them sweeping but clearing tables i have seen.
