Please Let Amanda Tapping Direct

(this is a modified version of a post I made on Gateworld and Gaters - I removed a few lines cos there's a story Amanda did at least get to pitch - hope that's true???)

A Request and Prayer -

(well Powers that be are not just studio heads and producers???)

To the Powers That Be and General Fandom

Many of us have admired Amanda Tapping's work in SG1 as Sam Carter for the quality of radiant intelligence she brings to the character. We would very much like to see how she applies this same quality and skill to directing and would ask you to please consider allowing indeed even encouraging Amanda to direct a episode in season six or perhaps in the spinoff series?

Yeah, she told us at SG-4 she asked if she could direct an episode but they wouldn't let her. I hope she'll get her chance.
But to be fair...Michael watched the progress of directing very closely, spending every free hour in the ...cut room (??? where they cut it...LOL, hope u know what I mean) and asked a lot of questions so he would be ready to do it if there ever was a chance for him...

Well MS sounded like an eager beaver. Specially if he spent alot of time in the editing process.

I'd love to see Amanda be given a chance.

I agree. I work on SG1 and although I cannot say that I know Amanda, the few times I have spoken with her she has impressed me by her sincerity, and her integrity, she does not talk down to those around her, and her husband (sorry guys) seems like a regular guy. I agree she should direct some of the more sensitive episodes, she to me has always been the "heart"
of the show.

Of course I don't know her personally but from what I've heard from her at SG-4 and from the few sentences I spoke with her I got the feeling she indeed is a very intelligent, sensitive but normal woman. She has a tremendous personal magnetism and I think all those things would make her a great director. I'd love to see the figures and stories through her eyes and hope she will get her chance this season since it is the show's last one.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.

but just to "revive" this topic ......... I must say, if AT's half as smart as SamCarter then she will most certainly excel in directing.

well anybody that would stop by on her way to hawaii for her anniversary just to say hi at gatecon has my vote!! <G>

I know people tend to paint sam with a very fond brush...and i think that is because the actress is a very nice person...and it shows in her performance.

here's hoping she can direct &/or toss in plot ideas.

in fact the only down thing would be that it might be a sam-light eps.

well I'm glad to see some new faces in this thread - its disappointed me how little response there's been ... apparently hundreds of people will campaign on behalf of any shippper issue - Jack +Sam , Save Daniel etc but very few of us could be bothered to support AT !!!

I'm hoping that's just cos people got burnt out on those issues and maybe we can revive this thread !!!

I have no idea if any of the pros lurk on this forum and having had one bad experience with JM frankly if any do I hope its someone apart from him!

If anyone lurking does know AT we would like to know whether she would consider such a campaign as a help or a hindrance???

Cross fingers and pray to the Muses AT gets to direct if not SG! maybe the spin off or some project of her own!!!

boydo if youre lurking and really do work in the studio do you have any ideas if amanda's heard of this thread - its also been posted and alas faded away on the delphi forum and gaters

honestly neith,
i'm not in the mood for another campaign. i can understand, respect and support her wishes...but with all honesty i'm not going to write the studio and 'tell them what to do'.

it's my personal and humble opinion that other campaings have likely hurt the person they wish to promote and i really don't want to do that.

i truly think that if AT really wants to direct, all she needs to do is walk into BW's office and if he believes that she has the ability...he'll let her do it.
It's the same with pitching an idea or writing an episode...if it's good and they have room in teh lineup...they'll let her do it.

i had in mind more of a we'ld like to remind the powers that be we feel amanda could do a good job and we'ld boost the rates watching if you let her do it campaign

no imperatives hence the please ???

I dont know BW well enuff to know if he can be trusted to do the right thing ... sigh too many bad experiences with people who only care if you fit a marketing profile etc and other things

also some bad let-downs over the last six months and before by so called male friends and acquaintances who didnt do the right thing when they could have

i would be very very pleased to discover at least one producer out there doesnt ignore a woman's existing work and skills experience for acting or writing or directing whatever and has the manners NOT to give them prove yourself elsewhere lectures especially when the polite question you asked was about something completely different

belive me i pray it turns out BW has different policies to JM!!!

but getting back to amanda i wish i had some way to find out if she thinks it would help or not - if anyone lurking does know for sure either way please pm or email me???

Yeah I know sometimes in trying to help ppl U actually uh, hurt/hinder them more .........

but yeah - again, I just thought maybe if some more ppl expressed their interest / enthusiasm for seeing AT direct, it'd convey to the PTB that the fans are interested to see what happens - even if it is only one, little episode - like Skydiver said - anything she directs would be a Sam-lite ep and I dunno if thatz a good thing ......... just being selfish - Sam's gota be my role model and U've gota see someone there really to have an effect - Meh - stargate withdrawl symptoms ..... :aliengray

i think the fact that boydo playes here and i THINK other of TPTB do lurk here given comments i've read in other places....they know. you just have to be patient, nothing in TV moves fast.

so would it be safe to presume that for the memonet the best policy might be to try to keep this thread alive by getting more people to post to it and hope the powers That BE notice the interest and think - hey we can make a profit if we let AT direct???
and emphasize we're doing it as a reminder / request thing?

(given the alas!!! tendency of many fans and pros to read requests in plain english as imperatives when they're not?

I wish people wouldnt confuse can and could with must and should!!!)

AT if by any chance you're lurking remember for everyone posting there's more reading and we mostly wish we could do more than just requests and good wishes!!! ... well I do !!!
