chat transcript 4/13/02

Hmm. Interesting, especially the part about the negativity not doing the DJ fans any favours. Just what I thought myself anyway. The Save DJ campaign have probably shot themselves well and truly in the foot.

The trouble is, I just can't get enthusiastic about this show any more. I love the early episodes, but since mid Season Four, I have slowly turned it into a moving wallpaper facility.

In truth, I find the fan's ideas and fan fiction a lot more entertaining than anything Joe Mallozzi and Co can push out.

They want a show that continues to work and is as fresh and new as it was the day it first aired? They should go and watch Joss Whedon work on Buffy then.... because that show has managed where Stargate has failed miserably. All there's been in Stargate is negativity, enmity and downright aggression....from all of the various factions.....Jack lovers.....Sam admirers.....Daniel hysterics..... I would mention poor Teal'c but he has been like a prop for most of the episodes.

Interesting also that he believes that the negativity will affect the Stargate people's attitude towards Gatecon..... will that include Wolfcons as well? Or is it just Gatecon that will suffer. Sounds like that event will be a hoot this year then.

It's a shame if it does affect the con, because Allen and his colleagues work very hard to make it a good event and enjoyable for all concerned.

And the con isn't primarily for the guests is it? It's supposed to be for the fans primarily.....or so everyone keeps telling me.

I checked out that site. Those ladies make Anni seem like the President of the Michael Shanks/Daniel Jackson Fan Club.

Did Joe Mallozzi say anything about the rumored Sam/Jonas romance?

there was no mention of sam/jonas romance.

he did say that Joe Faxon is more than likely alive and well on the Aschen home world...didn't say for sure if he'd be back but i'm guessing that with 4 eps still unplotted and unplanned anything's open.

and i really hope that things change before september. I know i'm looking forward to season 6 with mixed feelings....looking forward to 22 more eps....sad that they'll be the last 22 with these characters that i've grown very, very fond of.

and actually very sad that things have worked out the way they have.

I'd like to see Joe Faxon return, I thought he was a good character (even if he did look just like Al Gore). It would be a nice change if one of Sam's love interests actually survived.

I wouldn't mind seeing more Teal'c-centered episodes either, and of course, the return of Aris Boch would be welcome.

Thanks for posting the link. I actually got the courage to read it.

I'm peeved that Joe Mallozzi is saying that negative fan comment is affecting who's feeling like attending Gatecon. Please. The questions given to the writing staff were pretty calm and reasonable considering the bombshell Wright dropped at the panel. But if they want to make themselves less seeming like reasoning people-- or they can't stand to think about their work and reason out why they did what they did in each episode-- I'm sure Gatecon people will find more interesting people to chat with.

Between Showtime's schedule mistakes, syndication in reruns for the last two months just like Showtime, Wright announcing DJ's departure near to 8 months in advance, and the lack of good SF material in a SF show, they've shot themselves in the foot. The show has been dying a slow death since season five opened. I think Showtime had someone paying attention enough to know this. I like seeing old characters return. But 4 out of 5 times if it's a season opener, Bratac will show up. He's in eps 1 and 2 again. I'm not holding out for any other return to be any more interesting than the last time they showed up. Unless they die. To accuse web site article writers of assuming the wrong things about what eps are about is silly. They've become so predictable we can make assumptions and be on the target if not a bullseye.

To me it sounds like all of them up there are extremely afraid of negative comments of their work, even when they're reasonable and intelligent and given in concern for the quality of the show.

I'm glad that he knows that the SDJ group is a minority.
They're the people who've screwed up the fandom the most over the last 6 months. It'd be nice now if they saw all the **** that they go on with is just plain stupid.

What's this rumour that is going around about a Sam/Jonas thing? This is the first I've heard of it. I find it rather repulsive.

All in all, an interesting interview.

Maybe that's half the trouble Cyn..... it strikes me that the Stargate people have become a little arrogant and cocksure. I'm sure that the core group of actors who regularly attend the cons will not let any kind of negativity upset them into not attending.

However it's always been a source of surprise to me that Chris Judge has never attended another con, especially since the reports state that he had such a good time at the first one.

Maybe though it's the very fan hysteria that is displayed so often on these lists and forums that have led to the comments made. After all, it will have had some effect and just as the relatively small online fandom believe that Stargate and it's actors are centres of the known universe, so will the Stargate staff revolve around within that notion. They are constantly being fed from the perception of those staff members who do trawl the lists (and sometimes get their fingers burnt!).

I think it is sad the way it's worked out. The series could have continued long after it has, if only it had a little less cynical bunch of people at the helm. If they lose their enthusiasm....then so do everyone around them.

too busy for luxuries like stargate, i have to do my english homework!!!!!!!! just as fun, really <<sarcasm--ive been watching jack 2 much>>

ive printed it and ill read it on teh bus on the way to school tomorrow, i promise.......

I can't vouch for other boards, but I don't think we have overeacted to spoilers about episodes which haven't ultimately proved to be true.

We may have jumped to conclusions about 'Nightwalkers' -- I have yet to see it. But it still seems like a weird episode.

The depature of DJ and the other criticisms from S5 still stand up to scrutiny. Not killing off DJ was the easy way out.

And what is it that I have heard concerning Jack playing his part by mobile phone (due to RDA having a leg injury)? Couldn't he just visit the Asgard for a few episodes instead?

They like the criticism really, it's feedback. Even Brannon Braga (Star Trek Enterprise) says he reads the online criticism, and his attacks are of much more personal nature, and over a much wider variety of problems that fans hold him responsible for.

They just can't handle the negative feedback, even when it is correct.

That's an interesting comment Dave. I'm inclined to agree with you there.

I'm really puzzled by a writing and producing group running out of material. (It doesn't seem to hinder the sister project The Outer Limits. Feels like they've been around forever.) Sad to say we fans "asked" for season six and should have realized that Stargate would suffer the same fate as Sliders when picked up by Scifi. And I recall posting and lamenting in a tongue and cheek way that would come to pass. Now it's really true.

Why can't a TV show be really innovative and pick up fan fic plots, give credit, get agreements signed that limit the whole mess of compensation for the idea, and then produce the idea? We harp on how good the fan fic ideas are. What if they could really prove it and produce some? The sort of fan "put up or shut up" sort of thing.

If they really want a good new scriptwriter to produce new material, look no further than David Icke.

David Icke is probably more familiar in the UK than elsewhere. He used to be a successful professional Football goalkeeper (soccer), and then a BBC sports presenter for many years.

Then he slowly came to believe than he was really the 'Son of Man', that we should all dress in turquoise, and most disturbingly, that there is a conspiracy to take over the world by a reptillian "serpent race" from another world. He has evidence that 42 American presidents, the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, and the British royal family are all among the blood relations of reptile-human hybrid clones.

He's written 5 books on this subject and his website is here:
http://www.davidicke.com/icke/temp/reptconn.html

Don't laugh at him, he is deadly serious about this stuff!!

It's far more original than any Stargate or X-Files plots. They should be falling over themselves to hire him.

I've still got my fingers crossed that season six will be alright, the change that we need. Maybe that's naieve after the latter half of season 5, but still, i don't want to give up on the show yet.

Besides, nothing could be worse then the way they screwed up with the martouf/lantash/elliot thing (a perfect example where the writers have listened to the fans eg. our pleas for martouf to come back, and screwed it up. they may as well left lantash dead if they were going to go with THAT storyline).
In my opinion things just have to get better from here becuase they can't possibly get worse.

I find that interesting considering in one interview he gave he mentioned the SDJ website by name and gave it's URL. If he were that upset about SDJ fans on the whole I have difficulity believeing he'd pass on the URL for the site.

The on-going discussions in fandom haven't impacted the guest list for GateCon in any way I've been made aware of. Of the guests that have been asked so far, everyone is coming. Everyone who is working for and with the con is still working hard to provide the best fan environment we can.

Ya'sure'ya'betcha'! ;)

that one wasn't totally thier fault. the original plan WAS to bring back marty/lantash...but then jr bourne had a scheduling conflict and could not film the eps so they went with Lantash going into Elliot.
In fact, JM has said in a chat that if JR Bourne HAD come back chances are Marty/Lantash would be alive today.
