The One with the longest title, McCoy in love, and the asteroid/ spacecraft Yonada.
Dr. McCoy discovers that he has a rare, incurable and terminal illness. He requests that Kirk allow him to carry on working, and to keep the information to himself. Kirk immediately calls for a replacement for McCoy, almosts refuses to take him on the landing party, then tells Spock about the illness. Some friend!
Unknown to it's inhabitants, Yonada is actually a huge spherical spaceship, built by the Fabrini civilisation, to replant their race from one star system to another. Unfortunately, something has gone wrong with the programming and it is now on a collision course with Daran IV. They must have spent some considerable time developing the written Fabrini language for this episode and it looks superb.
Once McCoy marries Natira, high priestess to the Oracle, he agrees to obey the will of the Oracle and is shown the book of knowledge. When he realises that it is a manual for the ship, Kirk and Spock are able to correct the course. The vast bank of medical knowledge has a cure for McCoy's disease. As soon as he is cured, he forgets his love for Natira and rejoins the Enterprise. This is a major 'reset button' episode. Kirk does promise McCoy that when Yonada reaches its destination the Enterprise will be there to greet them, but we never here about them again.
