Enterprise co-creator Brannon Braga recently revealed the Temporal Cold War story arc could have sustained its own series.
"I thought that it could be a great series on its own," he told Cinescape Magazine (via TrekWeb). "The idea of a cold war being fought on different fronts, and each front is in a different century."
The producer said the series could have switched settings each episode. "It would be great to do a show that takes place in a different time period every week, and you have these sleeper agents in all different time periods." In the end, Braga and co-creator Rick Berman decided the concept could form part of Enterprise. "It's a very cool idea, but we decided to work it into Enterprise instead and I think it's working out well so far."
Although Enterprise has focused mainly on the 22nd century, Braga said some future history will be slipped into the series. "As the cold war keeps developing, you're going to get little glimpses of the Star Trek that is yet to come." But the writer hasn't yet decided how long the arc will run for. "It depends on how long we can sustain it," he said. "It will certainly go on for a while."
