Okay - so, I got this the other day - it's the widescreen edition of Highlander and has some extras too - plus a cd with 3 Queen songs from the movie (which are also on the "A Kind of Magic" Queen album).
Got some interesting facts by watching the movie w/ the directorial comments turned 'on' --> the one that stands out the most - "Highlander" was Christopher Lambert's first, full-length, completely English speaking role/film (he'd done "Greystoke: The Legen of Tarzan" [great movie], but only had a few lines to speak). Christopher was born in Great Neck, NY, but his father was a diplomat, and the family moved to Switzerland, where Christopher grew up (this part i already knew). So, he speaks fluent French, and they brought in an English coach to work with him on Highlander. (I would guess he'd learned some English prior to landing the Highlander role, but he wasn't fluent, tho you wouldn't even notice it to listen to him speak now.)
Russell Mulcahy talks a lot about the production and direction of the movie. He gives little insights about the sets, and some of the effects, and other little bits. Like, there's a hubcap that rolls through the scene after the first Quickening in the parking garage, and Russell rolled that hubcap through. It's one of those little touches that you don't really notice, but you would miss if they took it out.
So, to anyone who bought 'the immortal' edition of Highlander - i highly suggest watching the movie w/ the directorial comments turned on. Mulcahy does most of the speaking, and the other guy w/ the accent (kind of 'new england-ish') is Peter Davis, the other guy, the one who makes statements that point out the blatantly obvious, that's William Panzer - <yeah, everyone knows how i feel about him> - and you can make evil looks and gestures at the TV when he talks - it's good therapy!
