6.13.Far Beyond the Stars

(sorry, don't remember what season or ep # this is)

Anyway, I was going through some tapes last night, and came across this episode that I didn't realize I'd had on tape. It's a fun episode that is something of a dream in Sisko's head.

It's one of those 'toss all the ppl in the show into another character in a slightly different storyline' shows.

Something happens to Sisko (think he gets knocked out, but I'm not sure) and we are sent to this 'dream world' where he's a science fiction writer, but so are most of the other DS9 cast members. Odo is the 'boss' and Julian and Kira are a team, JG Hertzler is the artist (don't remember his character's name on DS9), and Quark and O'Brien are two of the other writers. Nog is a newspaper boy, Worf is a famous baseball player, Cassidy is Sisko's girlfriend who works in a diner, Dax is a gum-chewing secretary w/ a NY-style accent, Jake is - well, I'm not really sure what Jake was supposed to be,. But, by far, the best, are Dukat and Weyoun! They're cops - and those two are a hoot out of makeup! That's my favorite part - seeing the 'alien' characters out of make-up!

it was ep 6.13.

I liked it too. I think Jake was a thief - poor kid ends up being killed. I really liked Dax'x character she made me laugh. Took a while to recoognise the aliens out of makeup, especailly Hertzler, who plays Martok.

well, i'd seen Hertzler 'out of makeup' before - he was on Highlander and Zorro (the one that aired on the Family Channel in the US) - so, he wasn't hard to spot (for me he was almost harder to spot when he was IN makeup! ;) until he spoke, then it was no problem!)

the one i had trouble with was Mark Alaimo, well, and Jeffrey Combs too, but him, not so much -- Alaimo just looks so different in the makeup! (they smooth out the little pock-marks in his face when they turn him Cardassian) - ya gotta listen to his voice to know who he his!

but this episode is a riot!!

oh - did you also notice that Michael Dorn's 'non-Worf' voice is not as deep as when he's Worf? (i already knew that too, just paid attn to it when i was watching this the other day) -

I need to watch it again. I've only seen it once, and I missed the first 5 minutes. I never thought it was as good as it was cracked up to be, but many fans rate it as their favourite episode of all.

I much prefered this episode to the equivalent one on Voyager - the one where Janeway shacks up with some old fella in a bookstore that was boring....

It was a nice "what if" kind of story that I quite enjoyed...

you know - i wanna say that i don't think i liked this episode as much the 1st time i saw it, but when i found it the other day, i watched much of it and it really is a good episode --

it proposes a nice little 'what if DS9 is really just some guy's sci-fi story' (as in w/in the world of DS9 it's a scifi story - b/c we all know it really is just a scifi story - but anyway) ---

and i just like to see 'aliens' out of make-up - makes the 'makeup' character more interesting sometimes --

(this episode made me like Gul Dukat more as a character - dunno why tho)
