During a search on the 'Net for something for a new fan fic., I came across this:

"We will not lie, steal or cheat, nor tolerate among us anyone who does.''

Those words, contained in the U.S. Air Force honor code, are chiseled in stone in the cadet chapel at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado.

It rather looks as if T.P.T.B. hadn't done their homework properly before they insinuated Jonass Quinn into S.G. -1, doesn't it...?

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

But Hat, Jonass has all these vital skills and experience to offer the SCG. Surely they can overlook his numerous moral failings.

He's a genius you know, he can read a whole book in a single night!

(I get the distinct feeling that the average TV producer isn't much of a reader if they think THAT's an accomplishment.)

Yeah, well, obviously the U.S.A.F. honour code was too much for them, and without the help of Dr. Jackson, anything chiselled in stone is clearly beyond them too. :dead:

I suspect they have problems with long words like verisimilitude, too.

Can't help wondering what General Ryan's take on the whole thing would be if he's still following the programme, now that he's retired...?

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut

We don't (or I don't) know how he's gonna be incorporated into SG1. Daniel was by no means suitable, so I don't think we should kick up too much of a fuss about Jonas.

Daniel was the guy who:

1. Figured out how to use the gate.

2. Was able to communicate with the Abydonians.

3. Put his OWN life on the line to save Jack. Thus proving his courage.

4. Was able to use his cultural knowledge and translation skills to get the team home.

I'd have to say that this proves he was suitable.

Because SG1 often carried out first contact mission and got involved with all the tricky stuff then someone like Daniel was an essential part of the team, as a translator, an anthropologist, his great intelligence and ability to solve things and the fact that we all know archaeologists are the best ;)

I meant Daniel wasn't suitable to work on the field, as it were, he didn't have training, had allergies, was a typical 'geek' (much the same as Rothman).

Jonas might have some sort of fights training, I don't know what his 'speciality' is.

Daniel didn't work out how to work the gate on his own, or even if you think he did, it was mentioned that Sam had been working on it for a couple of years (what, now Daniel's smarter than Sam?) and no doubt many other people had. He was just a character for the movie, a contrast to Jack. And regards to Abydos/cultural abilites, Teal'c can do much of that.

I'm not picking at Daniel's character, I'm saying that what we knew about Daniel at say COTG, he was a geek, had no training following orders or in combat, and was emotionally involved/motivated. I'm not saying Jonas is perfect for the job. All characters have their drawbacks.

I disagree, Teal'c is good for the Goa'uld and some Egyptian knowledge (which is mostly what Goa'uld culture is anyway), but he doesn't even come close to Daniel's knowledge of ancient Earth cultures. There are more planets out there that are derived from other cultural background than just Egyptian. Like the Cimmerians etc.

Daniel's expertise is going to be sorely missed. And I don't think Jonas can read every book ever written on Egyptian culture in a week and suddenly become an expert of the history of the human race.

I agree, I hope they don't give him wonderful Egyptology skills... Also, what might be interesting though, is that now half the team are technically 'aliens'... How will thay play out?

Regards the languages thing, I don't think we need to worry, most of the people SG1 encounter tend to speak English!
