How many books will it be?

Apparently, A Song of Fire and Ice was conceived of as a trilogy. Then it was moved to having 4 books. Then 6. Now there's talk of 7.

How many books does aSoFaI actually *need* to properly and successfully wrap the story up?
 
You know, I'm not too sure I could answer that. I recently read in a message from George R R Martin that the story has suddenly grown beyond his expectations and he's just going to run with it. Personally I don't mind, so long as he is producing quality, which he is. :) If his later books are as good as those already out, then damn, I'll take as many as he's prepared to write, and I don't care how long it takes him.
You know what, I think that is the thing I like best about Mr Martin: He won't sacrifice quality to quantity or rapid production. He's there for the story and is committed to making sure its bloody good.
Huzzah for A Song of Ice and Fire, may it never end :D
 
A possibility of a larger series....... Ohhhhh thank you god! I have loved every minute of reading this series.
 
Hey Master you are only a short trip down the A1 away mate. They'd have to be big dogs anyway, as my Direwolf, Ghost, would rip them to shreds. He is twice as big as a timber wolf now and is still growing.

Is there a definite release date for a Feast for Crows? Robb Stark's death still haunts me....

You too? That scene still amazes me. I had to read it over twice before I believed it was actually happening! The first time I believe my jaw just fell out into my lap, I'm sure my face was quite a sight.;) I can't remember a time when I was so shocked by a book. I just want more and more.:D

PAH, Direwolves are nowt... I can get a-hold of a pack of ravenous Yorkies!!! :eek: They'd make short work of your pitiful excuse for a canine!!! :D
 
Robb was such this great character who we never truly got to know. Asides from baby Ricken, we get to know the other Starks but not Robb. I thought (hoped) the next book was going to have Robb chapters, by George I was wrong. He is a tricksy author.

August 2005!!! I feel like hurting you mate just for being the bringer of bad news. Don't shoot the messenger and all that. I was hoping that it would be out before Christmas, I have already pre-ordered it. You are a spiteful little dwarf, and I will hate you for all your days.
 
from an unoffical source on the net somewhere, hell if i can remember it. some board, but it's rumored to be another 3 books and that the new 3 (including FoC) are supposed to end it. i'll see if i can find where i read that, or have one of my friends find it. but thats what my little ears heard. :p

my hope is that there is, i dunno maybe another 10 -15. yeah... that'd be nice. i doubt it'll go over 4 or 5 more now though. unless he wants to introduce some new main characters, i can see at the rate he's going through them that the seires will end are 9, 10 books. :<

a shame really..
 
yes, this is his second series I do believe, and he has many individual books already under his sleeve. Hope fully he'll finish this and move on. Though I doubt it for some reason, he's probably sick of all the fans hassling him. he told them quite frankly what he thought in his most recent release on his website. I found it entertaining.
 
I was restless, unable to sleep.... So, I though I'd be annoying and go the LAST post, the one has hasn't been touched since 2005 (because there's absolutely no need to pull it up), and pull it up to the top of the list.

I feel better; the post feels loved.

Oh yeah, and hopefully there will be just as many books (or more) as we've all been anticipating.

Just as many is fine. More is not fine! Geez, for every book he would add as a "surprise" you would have to add an extra 5 years for the series to finish. One extra book would mean the series finishes in approximately 2022.
