Stargate Atlantis : The Animated Series.

Don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger. ;)

Dark Horizons http://www.darkhorizons.com/index2.html
(which I've always found to be reliable) posted this:

Stargate: Atlantis: There's word going around that the SG-1 spin off will be animated.

My first thought was "April Fool Joke", but it only appeared today (07/04/2002) so it's a bit late.

Also with what I've been hearing about SG-1 Season 6 -- well you never know!!!

Obviously, if true this would be worse news than Daniel Jackson's departure.

Please tell me it isn't true!

Impact magazine article

Sandman posted this link to a gateworld article which gives more detail, but the rumours are rather confusing.

Impact magazine to confirm animated series
SUNDAY - APRIL 7, 2002

Impact magazine editor John Mosby tells GateWorld that the U.K.-based magazine will confirm that a Stargate animated series is in the works in its next issue (#125), citing a source involved with the new series.

The issue will also contain SG-1 executive producer Brad Wright's response to Michael Shanks' interview in the current issue (#124). The May issue of Impact can be ordered from its Web site.

Meanwhile, movie news site Dark Horizons has reported that the rumored Stargate animated series and the Atlantis spin-off are one and the same. SG-1 writer and supervising producer Joseph Mallozzi, however, confirms (via the SG1 group at Yahoo! Groups) that this is not so -- Atlantis will be a live-action series, continuing where Stargate SG-1 leaves off.

Elsewhere in animated series news, Toonzone.net reports that New York-based 4Kids Entertainment -- which recently acquired the rights to program Fox Kids' block, starting this fall -- will bring an animated show called "Stargate" to television. Produced by DIC (known for "Inspector Gadget," among other shows), "Stargate" is described as "a FCC-friendly, educational series."

Toonzone.net could not confirm, however, that this is based on MGM's popular science fiction franchise. If it really is an educational series, this may be something altogether different -- though, if that were the case, DIC and 4Kids would have to contend with MGM's ownership of the "Stargate" brand.

(Thanks to John Mosby, Dustin Solis, Adele, Mahoney and Morjana for contributing to this report.)

I could live with an animated series, a movie and a new live action series as well, but is there enough life in this franchise to do all three? Especially, after the fan reaction to the series 6 rumours!

Wow, I so hope that the spin off series isn't animated ... I mean, I don't mind if there is an animated series, but I don't really want thre spin off to the movie to be animated. Although it does seem fairly likely, in that so many spinoff's today are made from movies ...

I hope that the spin off isn't animated, man that would be awful, a true disaster....

But if there were the new spin off and an animated series then I could live with it....

Personally, I enjoyed the MIB animated series a whole lot. It did good justice to the characters and advanced the idea behind the MIB rather nicely. I'm only of them quirky people that still faithfully watched Saturday and Sunday morning cartoons at age 29. So, it had to be good to keep my attention.

So, if there was a similar bend to a SG animated series, I think it would be a liveable alternative to losing the spirit of the show completely.

animated.gif

they're actually continuing a tradition done by Ghostbusters, Evolution, Batman, MIB, and the X-Men.

If they do make an animated stargate show it had darn well better be a quality show with quality graphics. The animation better rock. Or better yet, they could do the CG like they did with that Roughnecks show.

They could do worse than to follow in the footsteps of RGB:p

Get a grip... I poured coffee with Brad Wright this am. The spin-off if there is to be one, and I really hope there is because I have a mortgage to pay off will not be an animated series.
This, as far as I know has never been in the works.

But potentially, any animated series would be done by totally different producers, directors etc. and decisions would presumably be at high-level MGM type people, rather than Brad and co.

Yeah, you may be right about possible side-bar deals, but being in this show for six years, like being in any business you get a sixth sense about the "vibes" and this animated series one just isn't happening.

Thanks for putting our minds at rest Boydo.

If there was to be an animated Stargate show in tandem with the other spinoff, or in the future, it might not be necessarily all bad. The 'Star Trek: The animated series' was almost universally slated, although parts of it were quite good. But back then, cartoons were primarily childish and adolescent. Now, there are a whole host of 'Adult' cartoons on TV, and an adult cartoon is much more acceptable.

completely agree.

Stargate: Infinity (!)(Spoilers... I guess)

Hey i just read an article in a magazine here in the UK (and of course what do i do? Forget the name! I think it was Starburst, or Cult Times. Ill check again and re-post)

Anyway, they have a whole article on the animated series we've been hearing rumours about, but apparently the magazine's confirmed it as being called: Stargate: Infinity. Weird, huh?

Also they said that it would take place 20-30 years after SG-1 and that it wouldn't violate continuity.

Apparently it should air at the end of 2002

It is highly unlikely that characters from SG-1 will crossover to Infinity.

Each episode will last 30 mins.

MGM have signed on to do 26 (I think, it could be 24) episodes for the first season and that they would see fans reaction to the series before proceeding any further.

That's all I can remember now, ill post again in a few hours when i read up on it a bit more.

What do you all think of the title: Infinity? I think its alright.

Okay, now I'm confused.
What about Stargate: Atlantis, the spin-off?
Wanted to moved this thread over to the Atlantis section but I have no idea if the animated series and the spin-off are identical.
Now will the spin-off be animated or will there be the spin-off called Atlantis AND the animated series?

The plot thickens ;)

All this guessing is making my nervous, I need new Stargate! ;)

Although I have missed quite a few good eps that are now showing on Sky One (didn't get to see all of S4 or S5, got them on CD, formated and my CD went belly up , so I am waiting 'till I have broadband to get them again  )

OK: They are still planning on making:

Stargate 2 (the new film)
Stargate Atlantis (the live action series)
Stargate Infinity (the animated series)

All of this after the end of season 6 of Stargate SG-1.

I thought we'd decided that the animated series was an April fools? Maybe they heard about the April fools & thought it a good idea

nooo it may be happening

Stargate: The Animated Series' in the works?
TUESDAY - MARCH 26, 2002

MGM may be developing an animated Stargate series, according to one fan's report. "Lady Littlefox" -- known to many fans for her own SG-1 artwork -- told fans at the SamandJack message list yesterday that her request to produce T-shirts and other items featuring her Stargate artwork has been turned down by MGM, because an animated Stargate series is in the works.

If true, the move wouldn't be unprecedented for a live-action TV series. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example, is currently getting the animation treatment in a new show now in production.

GateWorld can't confirm the news just yet, so watch the site for future updates! Check out Lady Littlefox's artwork -- nicknamed "Stargate SG-1/2" -- at LadyLittlefox.com.

by the way her work really is great you should all check it out :D

And this is the article that you were talking about
