Sam!
Without him middle earth would have fallen for sure poor sam did all the work and got none of thee credit
Sam was more of a hero than frodo

I'd consider Sam as much if a hero as Frodo.

If I remember correctly during the Scouring of the Shire; Merry, Pippin and Samwise were listed as more of heroes than Frodo.

Frodo is recognised as the guy responsible for getting the ring to Mordor and Samwise was the guy who helped him during his greatest need.

As was said, Frodo carried the ring, but Sam carried Frodo. :)

It was Sam's selflessness that made gave him such strength - possibly the purest heart of any of them. :)

Gollum.

After all, he kept the ring for centuries, well away from Sauron. :)

Eowyn... She destroyed the Witch-King...

Don't see her getting any sort of reward... Doing something no mere man could accomplish!!!

Who did take over ruling Rohan after Theoden's death???

But Theoden (in the film) said to Eowyn that he wanted her to rule...

I would have thought that a good union would be Eowyn as Queen of Rohan, and Faramir as her consort... ;)

Oops, must have missed that part of the conversation. But I only have seen Part III one time so far.

If you want to follow the books though, it's Eomer who rules Rohan.
Faramir and Eowyn go and live east of the Great River. In Minas Something... Sorry, forget the name of the tower.

*grits teeth* Eowyn should be with Aragorn. It makes so much sense.... They've so much in common. They're warriors, they're royal, they're mortal, they understand war and death and pain, in a way a beautiful, gently nurtured elf like Arwen never could. What did Arwen ever do anyway?

I can't say quite the same :) but I certainly have been in admiration. I tend to fall in love with anime characters ;) and Gackt of course. Eowyn was such a wonderful person *_*

Um, why Goldberry? Not that she's not pretty, just she isn't.... particulary cool

A union between Aragon and Ewoyn would IMHO be compeletely reprehensible, and would only make sense to a movie going audience that fails to see the big picture. What did Arwen do? How about making the decison to sacrifice her immortality, being in love with the leader of man and insuring the qualities of elves in some part remains in the line of kings, and thus in humanity. She bound her fate o the fate of Frodo, as Tolkien tells us here:

"What is meant is that it was Arwen who first thought of sending Frodo into the West, and put in a plea for him to Gandalf (direct or through Galadriel, or both), and she used her own renunciation of the right to go West as an argument. Her renunciation and suffering were related to and enmeshed with Frodo's : both were parts of a plan for the regeneration of the state of Men. Her prayer might therefore be specially effective, and her plan have a certain equity of exchange." Letter 246 - JRR Tolkien

Arwen essentialyy put herself into a matter that she did not have to. Ewoyn was fighting or her people who were threatened with extinction, Arwen by all rights could have sailed to the west and valinor from the very begining.

By accepting Aragorn it is said:

"her choice was made and her doom appointed" Appendix A, The Return of the King - JRR Tolkien

The choice of Elrond's children:

"But to the children of Elrond a choice was also appointed: to pass with him from the circles of the world; or if they wedded with one of Mankind, to become mortal and die in Middle-earth." - History of Middle Earth XII, The People's Of Middle Earth - JRR Tolkien

Arwen's decison also compelte a circle, paralleling the same choice made by Luthien in The Silmarillion. Such sacrifce is not common, and should not be underestimated for the sake of any "coolness".

Just my opinion, however:)

You have some major points, and i've always known it would never be possible. It's just I never could bring myself to like Arwen much. Now Luthien I loved. There was something beautiful and pure about her, and her love with Beren. But Arwen roused no similar liking in me, only a mild antipathy towards her. Sorry.

um actually arwens mother was slain by a poisoned orc arrow, and arwen there for does know death and pain. also there is something fundamentally pure about her sacrifice, giving up immortality, her senses, her purity, to become mortal to be with aragorn

GOLLUM AS THE HERO

That's true, but don't forget that he had no knowledge of the ring's maker, and if he had known he would have kept the ring away only in fear for his life.

Of course, the matter can also be argued that he is the hero because his attack on Frodo at Mount Doom wrought the destruction of the ring (i.e., when he bit off the hobbit's finger).
