Man Of The Power

In the Star Trek: TNG ep 'Man Of The People'. Counsellor Diana Troi (sp?) says she has an appointment with ensign Janeway.

Is this our captain of Voyager?

Or is it a relative of our captain?

Or nothing to do with Captain Janeway?

Plis tell me...thanxs:D

I'd say it would have little to do with captain Janeway. Being an ensign during TNG's run would of meant that she'd of had to be promoted to captain incredibly quickly. But the Voyager writers could of liked the name and taken it, they've taken characters before but changed them a litle so they don't have to pay royalties.

Yep I have to agree I think its just a coincidence...perhaps just a name the writers liked the sound of.

BTW the episode was 'The Man of the People'.

They do reuse names they like, there is no relation unless they decide to write one in the future.

I don't know why they sometimes reuse names and sometimes don't:

Alexander Enberg, the actor who played the Vulcan, Lt. Vorik in 'Voyager', was previously Lt. (jg) Taurik on the TNG episode "Lower Decks". Now would it not have been more interesting to have him be the same character?

Not really, in my opinion anyway. But if they did do that I think they would have had to pay royalties to the writer who created Taurik.
I believe they did the same for Lt. Paris, he played a cadet in TNG that was responsible for another cadets death in a dangerous aerial maneuver. So they changed his character slightly to get out of paying.

It may have been royalities, but I read about the Lt. Paris story and he was always meant to be someone different.

They interviewed loads of people for that role, looking for someone who would be a little like Cadet Nick Locano (Robert McNeill's earlier character). They didn't want him specifically, just had an idea that it should be a similar sort of character, but they couldn't find anyone more suitable.
