Just read over at GateWorld that SG1 will be aired in widescreen when Sci Fi starts showing S6.....

I hope this doesn't apply to the UK, I don't have a widescreen TV and widescreen are shows are so annoying, you lose almost a 3rd of the screen....

I thought that would actually be a good thing. As you might have noticed if you have seen any of the dvd's, they are in widescreen format, and have the black bands at the top of the screen. On Sky One, and I think also on Channel four, the picture is cut at the edges and magnified (you can tell because sometimes the names in the credits don't all fit on the screen), and the picture looks a lot less clear.
I would rather they broadcast it in widescreen with the bands, so you get to see the whole picture!

If you think I have confused this matter, please feel free to correct me!

NP your right Tabitha, it would be a good thing...

But we have a really old TV, late 1980s  and it doesn't take nicely to widescreen

Don't worry Tabitha, I guess it was just me ranting on...

Now, I have to see if can I convince my folks to get a DVD player, and a new TV and all that after Broad band  I need a job

broadband is top of my list right now  then airport so I can surf from anywhere in the house!

Start working (on them) now, and maybe you'll have a new telly by the time season six starts ;)

lol maybe I can arrange an accident ;) My Dad is Stubborn, he won't get a new one until the old one is broke, which can't be to long, the VCR they got with it packed up a couple of months ago.

I am almost there with the DVD though, and broad band is assured, I started on that sometime ago :D

i have broadband!! i have it with BT openworld, and it is WELL WORTH IT!! we have a connection of 576KBPS!!!!!! and it takes like a second to connect, none of that taking ages waiting for it to dial rubbish!

Wow! Broadband sounds cool! I'm stuck with AOL on 56k modem, ugh:(
Still maybe new computer would be cool too!!!!:D
For me widescreen would be way better. I have a widescreen tv and normal shows are annoyig because my screen size is reduced to a small square in the middle, or i can expand it and then lose the top bit of the picture. Sky will probably still broadcastit in usual format anyway though:(

Yeah you're probably right. They don't bother to broadcast (later seasons) of Buffy or Angel in widescreen do they? I think BBC 2 and channel 4 give us the widescreen though. It really bugs me - I have cable digital and I have the feeling that I might be able to alter it, but all the options are way too confusing.

Oh my god! I am turning into my grandmother!

I don't care what screen it's in as long as I get to watch it!;)

big screen TV are cool but they take along time to warm up well mine does.
P.S if you want broadband if you can get it in your post code is blueyonder twice the speed of BT openworld i am using it and it is almost as fast as a T3 line

here in the states a couple of the networks have been showing shows in widescreen for about a year now. west wing and er the two that i watch. honestly...it can be a bit shocking for the first minute or so...then you get so used to it that you don't even see it.

when i buy videos or dvd's anymore of movies...i look for the widescreen version. it's literally what you saw in the theater

Yep, I much prefer the widescreen version of pretty much everything - except when I am watching something on my laptop, then if it is a very 'narrow' letterbox format, the action is happening on a really tiny space :(

As for tv shows in widescreen - it is about time. I just wish they wouldn't alter the picture to broadcast widescreen-made things in regular tv-size formats. When E4 in the UK first started running ER they had stretched the widescreen format to fit the tv, it was all grainy because of the magnification and was also pretty distorted. People suggested that I should alter my digital settings for the channel, but it just didn't work at all :( I think they are finally showing it in the right format now though. Not that it matters since I am in Canada now anyway!!!

most if not all DVDs come in widescreen which is defined as either 4.3 which is normal mode or 16.9 which is widescreen mode.
i watch everything in widescreen mode i don,t know if its a general feature on all widescreen TVs or just phillps TVs but i got a button which allows me to watch either in normal 4.3 or widescreen and a few others as well.
