Bounty Hunter in Season One

I went to Sphynx's site and looked a bit everywhere and felt on this particular page about that bounty hunter (another episode that I missed ! damn !).

Here.

Questions :

1/ Which species is he from ?

2/ How can his personnal shield could have stopped a dagger that O'Neill through at him when in another episode from a later season, Jackson managed to let an arrow fly at Apophis and go through his personnal shield (well, I think it did) ?
I remember it was a question of kinetics but then, is this bounty shield better than Apophis', since the dagger was slower but stopped when the arrow was faster but went through ?

Species:
Okay, this guy is Aris Boch, a bounty hunter of (presumed) human species. Most Goa'uld terraformed worlds were settled with humans from Earth to become their slaves, Jaffa and new hosts. However, as a result of long term exposure, the race are all now addicted to a drug called Roshna. They are also resistant to the Goa'uld symbiote, probably also due to the Roshna. This prevents them being used as host.
He is also in the SERIES 3 episode "Dead Man's Switch", so your information is a touch flaky.

Sheild:
It is simply a modified shield technology. A flying knife still has a lot of kinetic energy in the point when it hits the shield, otherwise it would not penetrate its victim! A second example of a modified shield is seen in "Window of Opportunity".
