Given that T'Pol's attitude about getting involved with an unknown ship in 'Fight or Flight' was an official attitude. Why did the Vulcan's stop by Earth for First Contact?

Surely the correct thing to do would be for them to fly past?

I think you're on to something there.

However, I get the impression that Vulcans never do something impulsively, so when they decided to visit Earth, they would have probably thought about it for a long time first, and probably they had monitored us for a while already, and discussed it at several committee meetings. Having faster ships, they could have still have had a meeting, and then arrived later the same evening that Cochrane returned.

very good point... the vi=ulcans never do anything unexpected or ff the cuff... so they must have pland it..

But they only arrived because they detected a warp signature. As TNG Enterprise was still skulking around somebody made a decision B***** quick. Which does not work with interminable committees

well put.. maybe a vulcan just had a urge !!!!!! god forbid
