First and foremost, I must say that Daniel Jackson's character is gone. That's a fact. Despite the fact that rumors exist about MS return to do some episodes, the bottom line is that he's not a part of the crew.

This message is for all those cry babies. SHUT UP. He's gone. Life goes on.

Second, Jonas Quinn, a.k.a. by some, Judas, is doing the best job he can. I don't see anyone from this forum stepping up to the plate. Oh wait, you're not an actor. You're just a cry baby.

Finally, end this comparison between DJ and JQ. Its similar to comparing apples and oranges. Its impossible.

And that's the bottom line.

Hm.. Well.. although I'm tired of shows I've been watching, has at some point always changed the characters, which I really hate from now on!!
But, I will give Jonas Quinn a chance a couple of ep. But the S6 episodes wont air here in.. oh.. about 6 years or so.. I still have 4 season of Daniel Jackson to watch :D

I kinda think that is a bit harsh...people are allowed to miss a character that has left the show and it was always going to be harder for some more then others

Yea I do agree I don't think the characters should be compared to one another..I can't comment too much as I have not seen much of Jonas but I for one would be glad to see that he is not just another Daniel!

I think your viewpoint is a little harsh here Garron, and in terms of the comparison - well, of course everyone is going to be comparing them. One took the place of the other - they occupied the same position on the team (i.e. the fourth member - regardless of their particular talents), so purely in that respect there must be some comparison that has to be drawn. If one member of a relay team changes, any change in the overall performance of the team will *always* be talked about in the context of that new member. I think it would be near impossible NOT to compare them Danny and Jonas.

That's my 2c - but I can see how it could become a little exasperating....

I do believe I was harsh. I had to be frank to get the message across. Some people might like what I have to say, some will not. Keep reading if you do, stop here if you do not.

The bottom line is that Jonas Quinn is here to stay. I'm not saying that he's a better actor, anthropologist, or a better character than Daniel Jackson. Nor am I hinting that JQ is going to do a better job than DJ.

In a nut shell, the SG has taken a bizarre twist by bringing in a new character. Let us embrace the new character, since its the only way we can enjoy the show we love.

Garron - I totally agree with your basic message in the above post. I guess you have to just accept the fact everyone else's views are as valid to them as yours are to you - they will keep posting how they feel, but you never know - maybe they will take in some of your advice :)

I have yet to see any eps featuring Jonas, but I will definitely give him the benefit of the doubt. I would hope that others do too.

Ditto...;)

I have always said that Im more then willing to give Jonas the chance and I am looking forward to what his character has to bring to SG1 :D

I was a big Daniel fan and have been since Season 1 (or even the movie if you want to go back that far). So when I heard that Daniel was leaving I was obviously heartbroken and then when I found out about Jonas 'replacing' him I swore to hate Jonas with all my being. Well that didn't even last one episode. I like this guy - I like him a lot. Of course I miss Daniel, but I'll get over that. I agree... Daniel and Jonas are two completely different characters and I love that about both. Jonas has this innocence about him that you just can't help but find endearing. And I must say I love the few scenes of Jonas and Teal'c together - they play well off each other. They're complete opposites and it's funny (or maybe cute's the pretty term).

jonas has brought a sense of newness and freshness to the show. his enthusiasm seems to be rubbing off on the others and...well after 4 eps i gotta say that i like him.

i can't wait for nightwalkers to see some jonas/teal'c interaction and then shadowplay where maybe we learn a bit more about him

and dang, that boy is FINE in a tight t-shirt ;)

You are so right, he brings a whole lot of freshness and newness to the show. I live in the UK and have been fortunate to have seen a first three eps, and I think Jonas is wonderful in more ways than one, and the show is the best it has ever been and believe me I have loved every episode and every season.

Proud to be a Jonasarian.

Yeah I was just the same...told my self over and over that I would hate him...but you know what I don't..in fact he got me with that big grin in Meridian the bit where he first meets SG1...

Tabitha...I was the same over Meridian....I was at SG4 (the convention) and they showed it there while we were waiting for MS to come on stage and I cried like a baby in front of the whole hall..but I was not the only one..(thanks god!) ;)

Sci-fi or fantasy?

Yup, definitely agree with you there :D

While I have no quibble with most of this paragraph, the real bottom line, from a rational, intellectual perspective, is that a person such as Quinn would never be allowed into an organization like Stargate Command which is involved with national security.

Series 6 has therefore taken an abrupt 90 degree shift away from sci-fi and into fantasy. If I want fantasy, I'll turn to Tolkien, Pratchett, Eddings et al.

In a nut shell, the SG has taken a bizarre twist by bringing in a new character. Let us embrace the new character, since its the only way we can enjoy the show we love..

Actually, it isn't the only way to enjoy the show we love. There is a vast amount of fan fiction out there. While there are some that leave a lot to be desired, like a good plot, character development and adherence to canon - no, wait a minute, that's series 4 - 6 I'm talking about isn't it? :D - most of it is extremely good and some of it is brilliant. But then, it's written by people who actually care about the characters - care about the team *as a whole* - and NOT just about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ That's where the future lies...

Best wishes,

In this business, we must be harsh. Its the only way in which people will listen to you. Make those bold statements. I can always deal with the critics another time.

Everyone hates a critic. Their so pessimistic.

Of course we miss daniel and have to get over it, but Jonas is a good charecter, itll be interesting to watch how he gains the teams trust and confidence, he cant just act like hes been part of it for 6yrs!! specially with Jack, he seems to be good with sam already and well teal'c is his usual eyebrow raising self!!!

look on the bright side, we only have to put up with him for 22 episodes and daniel is in 100s more and the movie, yes i know different guys, same character!!!

and jonas is a cutie!!

It's funny when I was in high school and he was doing Parker Lewis Can't Lose I would never have thought of him as ever being 'buff' but he has pulled it off well. :wink2:

The bottom line is that it was a bad move for MS to abandon Stargate. Perhaps this is a pragmatic point of view, but why give Corin Nemec a hard time for replacing a character who decided to leave the show in the first place?

Why have we criticized CN for taking over MS shoes?

I think there are some that would have hated anyone that stepped into the role. Jonas could have been Joan, a black woman from another planet, and still some woudl have found a way to say she was a cheap immitation.

some have honestly watched teh show and formed their own opinions, others literally hate the guy, sight unseen (but they've been told by their friends how horrible he is ;) )

There are always some people that will never accept change of any kind. And if a person is in a mindset that something is horrible, they will spin and twist things to support their view. In the same manner, folks that are bound and determined to see things in a positive light will do the same thing.

I do have to admit that the vehement hatered and vitriole i've seen directed towards the character and at times the actor is very, very scary. Corin is doing a job, plain and simple.

People have always had characters that they've disliked, that's teh nature of fandom. But to the best of my recollection, this extreme level of hatred has only started to show up in the last year or so.

It's almost fanatical, and trying to understand it is like trying to understand the fanaticism that allowed Japanese pilots to Kamikaze themselves, or allowed women to burn themselves alive on their husbands pyres. Yes, those people have a strength of belief and will, but while I can see their beliefs, I can't understand that extreme level of belief.

(NO BEFORE I GET CREAMED, I'M NOT COMPARING PEOPLE TO THIS, JUST USING IT AS AN EXAMPLE OF EXTREME BELIEF SYSTEMS)

It scares me that i can read the character jonas murdered in effigy many times over and the author is congratulated for her efforts, while that sort of hatred directed towards another character, especially Daniel, is immediately shot down and the perpetrator virtually crucified for daring to speak out against Daniel. What ever happened to the golden rule and treating others like you'd like to be treated?

I dont know if i should be concerned about such a depth of feeling exhibited towards a fictional character, or simply be grateful that I live thousands of miles from these folks....because it's spooky and unnerving.
