We have the Spider Man and X Men movies, X2 and Spidey 2 & 3 are on their way - Daredevil and Hulk are due out next year. DC makes a showing with a new tv series based on "Birds of Prey". From Hell and Ghost World are fairly recent, and TPTB are still talking about making a Watchmen movie. Ditto Preacher...

Superman Reborn might be on the back boiler, but Darren (Pi) Aronofsky's Batman is definitely on the way.

We all seem to watch a lot of movies here at ascifi - I was wondering whether any of you would like to chat about the comics you read, or, *gasp* want to chat enough to have a mini forum - after all we do have a books forum.

I am trying not to read too much at the moment - as I know I have to move back to the UK in a few months and don't really want to leave anything behind. Recent titles I have read are:

Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Strikes Back
Kevin Smith's run on Daredevil
and J Michael Strazinsky's Rising Stars vol 2

I am pretty much a DC girl, but if any of you out there would like to suggest any good marvel TPB's I would be very grateful for the info. :)

Aww c'mon people - I am sure there are some fanboys out there in ascifi somewhere :)

Yes!

Yes! At the very least, I'd like to see a general comics chat forum and a fanfic forum. I'm a huge Spider-Man fan and also a Superman fan. I also wouldn't be averse to an X-Men forum.

:)

Probably best in either Anime of General discussions for now.

Fair enough - epsecially considering the enormous response to this thread!

Emily - I don't really read any regular titles anymore, but I would be willing to talk rubbish about what I can remember about those characters...

Did you like the Spider Man movie? Do you think it did the comic books justice? It seemed to to me, but then I haven't read a Spiderman book for over ten years.

you know, i have never really read comics, but i think i'm going to start. i've actually only read like 3 in my life. but here's the thing, i went to see spiderman the other day. now i never read the comics and i've probably only seen like 3 eps of any cartoon shows with it, but i was amazed at how much about the story i knew. i knew everyone's names, i knew the green goblin thing, i knew the basics like photagrapher and everything. the same kind of thing happened when i went to see xmen, and same story there - i never really got into it. but i think somewhere in the back of my mind i just hung onto that info probably b/c it was interesting but i just didn't have time. but i think for the first time i might actually have time.

I enjoyed it. I saw the movie twice on opening weekend. I probably won't see it again until it comes out on DVD, but it is worth it. I wish there had been a little more character development, and some back story on minor characters like Jonah Jameson (why he doesn't like super heroes...didn't it have something to do with one of his first big stories as a reporter?)

I quit reading the comic books after they "killed off" MJ...but I recently picked them up again and was delighted to find out that MJ is back from the dead. Also, I picked up one last week and was surprised to find out that Aunt May knows Peter's secret now.

Actually, the movie inspired me to get a subscription. But it's taking so darn long to get my first issue. Marvel comics must really be using "snail mail"...LOL!

i really like the way spiderman still had a 'comic book feel' to it. they didn't try and change everything around to make it a movie.

It is amazing how some of this information just seeps into the public consciousness. I did used to read Spider-Man, but many many years ago, ditto X Men, but again I was impressed how much I remembered clearly.

I read comics a lot when I was little - I can't really remember how I got into them, cos none of my friends read them and american comics were very hard to come by in Belfast in the 80s.
My interest has waxed and waned, but I always come back to them. At the moment I am mainly reading trade paperbacks.

i read some of the batman ones that my friend had. especially this one short little miniseries where catwoman was the hero and batman was the villian. it was pretty cool actually.

SO, what do you peeps read?

For comic books, Spider-Man. I used to read X-Men & Spider-girl but haven't for a while. Also used to read Superman until they did a weird storyline where they gave him different powers for a while, which annoyed me. I liked the TV show Lois & Clark better than the comic book, anyway.

I like reading novels. But I spend most of my spare time writing original fiction & fan fiction now, so I don't read as often as I used to.

;)
