Just been thinking about all the movies and tv shows that have been made from comic books and thought I would start a thread to find out what ones you like the best. I am sure Smallville will make a strong showing - I haven't really watched it that much, but what I have seen I have enjoyed quite a bit.

Some of the options I have given in the poll have many incarnations - the four Superman movies, preceeded by the old black and white tv show starring George Reeves way back when. Ditto the four Batman movies, preceeded by the campy 60s tv and before that the black and white movies (I have never seen any of these though).

I think I might make another thread for cartoon adaptions - but I might need help as I can only think of four or five.

And of course there are the movies to come. Daredevil and The Hulk are due out in 2003, The Silver Surfer, Fantastic Four and Captain America are all in various stages of (possible) production. Darren Aronofsky's Batman should be on the way, and a new Superman movie, on the back burner for the moment is always a possiblity. Birds of Prey has been greelighted for tv this fall - starring Dina Meyer and Sherilyn Fenn.
We can look forward to another two Spider-Man movies, at the very least one more X Men film...

So what has YOUR favourite been so far?
I am torn, I loved Spider-Man, but have always been a fan of the Tim Burton batman movies. I though X Men was pretty great too.

i chose the turtles cos tere just sooo cool and i loved them when i was little :D

Where it says Blade, does it mean the film with wesley snipes in it killing off all those vamps, or another blade?

Yep that's the one I meant - I didn't realise there was another one...
I have seen both the Blade movies and while I thought the first one was excellent, the second was basically just a rehash. Nature of sequels I guess.

Of all the more recent films the Flash has been about the closest to the late fifties/early sixties comicbooks that I remember.

Batman wasn't too bad. If it had been as dark as the last of the Glasgow drawn comics it would have born an '18' rating. Much the same could be said for Superman as well

X-Men was modelled too closely on the cartoon.

Haven't seen Spiderman. But in the comic world he was the first Superhero to suffer real angst.

I voted for the TMNT just because Michaelangelo rules and to this day I sill watch them form time to time :)

I think you forgot Dick Tracy. I did't see it but I watched movie review show and the critic said it was a favorablely good adaptation.

I knew there would be a fairly big one that I would miss. I quite liked Dick Tracy, but I don't think it stands up to repeated viewing in the way some of the other movies here do. Any mod or supermod fancy adding it for me?

I can't believe people are voting for TNMT. I brought my cousins to see it at the cinema, and while it wasn't totally ridiculous (yeh right!) I much prefered the cartoon. Not that I am slagging off the people that are voting this way - I just assumed most people would like one of the other movies listed up there better.

Was the Flash a film as well? I remember the tv show, but not a film - were the same actors in both versions?

Definately Blade then, that film kicked ass, the sequel was dead awsome too :D

I didn'tvote since none of my choices were up their, though that are obsure.

Flash Gordan-Not the flick by Queen of course. Just the oringional scarchy B&W serials of the thirties. it was true to the work of alex Raymond.

The Marvel Super Heros 1960's TV-i have a few of these on video. The animation is super linited. But the Voice work and the stories are the best treatment the characters got.

I thought about Flash Gordon - but I couldn't remember if that character originated in comics or not. I think it might have been a newspaper comic strip - any info on it?

I left animation out on purpose - I've been thinking about making up a separate poll but haven't got around to it yet.

comic to cartoon poll now up and running in the animation gen discussions forum - go and vote!

Just read that Guillermo del Toro (I think he might have directed Blade 2) is bringing HellBoy to a screen near you sometime in the future.

Also heard that Nic Cage is to play John Constantine (from HellBlazer).

More and more comics being made into movies!
