Ra's Anubis is dead
Spoiler Alert!!!!!!!!
Sorry I don't know how to make it so you have to use the mouse to uncover it.
As for the movie, yes, Ra's first prime, Anubis, if we're going to call him that, is dead. O'Neil cut his head off with the rings as Daniel and Sha'uri came back down. Ra's guards were also Horus guards, so basically they used true Egyptian mythology in the movie because it made sense for Ra to have his guards be well known symbols of the mythology. In the series they changed it to be whatever animal symbolized the god as his guards, kind of, as much as possible. It's hard to do when a god is human and not characterized as an animal in any way. Plus many of the animals they had were not animals people would fear so it doesn't always work for some of the gods. I understand the confusion especially if you know any Egyptian mythology and try to keep it true to life. They do a great job on the show but still have to make changes when things don't work in their favor.
I think if we just forget the movie and go with Anubis was a system lord and was banished as they say and now wants back in, it works out ok. I know his animal is the jackal and wonder why they haven't shown his face or at least his helmut. I also wonder if they're going to not use an animal for him and just keep him an alien, maybe something completely different. Maybe he refuses to follow the rest of the Goa'uld and use Egyptian mythology, maybe he wants to start his own new mythology. If he wants to take over everything and he's so powerful and everything then maybe he can make up all new rules to the game and change the way the Goa'ulds have been ruling everyone.
Anyway, it's too hard to try to compare the movie to the series on this front and I'd say it's best not to try on this point. It just doesn't make sense. SS
