Hi,

Does anyone else think the iris is a little un-believable. We know the event horizon is a the centre of the gate, from a plan view. And we know that the Iris is position, what is it 1 micron from the even horizon (excuse me if I am incorrect). So where does all that metal go when the Iris is open. Secondly the movement of the Iris opening and closing is well, advanced, and would require some pritty advanced stuff!

I agree, Digi. But than I make no bones about the fact that if I wanted all my entertainment to reflect bare fact, I'd read text books and watch training films. ;)

I've just had to suspend believe for some things I enjoy.

Some just have to be "assumed" as working and true.
The thickness of the leaves of the iris would warp each other so only parts were 3 microns from the event horizon as stated. And to be that close would also require the iris to be mounted inside the Stargate somehow. Not to mention the fact it closes all the way shut - is this even possible? And then there are the motors/controllers which open and close it... etc.. :p

Oooh, this was already touched in another thread I think. Anyway, what do we generally say than ?

Poetic licence or something like that ? :D (sometimes I wish there were more scientists to help the writers).

Yup - I would go with that. Assumptions of where it goes, and how it is controlled, as stated by my previous post.
