Was this just simply that they hadnt planned danny's death at the time?
Or does danny become human again, like Orlin did?
Do we see danny in the future?
Accelerated ageing, perhaps? Like with the nanocytes?

It's just speculation.......
 
I think it was more likely the first one you put they just didn't plan on Mchael Shanks leaving the show and going the way he did! :D
 
Possibly a way to explain this...

Maybe when they changed course by not working with the Ashen (sp?) the changed other aspects of their future.

But in reality, I agree with your first thought. They didn't know he would leave.
