Yeah if you can manage to get tickets and can afford to go...I would say go for it as I have now been to two con done by these people and I enjoyed myself a lot there!

:D

I am based very close to the site of the Wolf event in Blackpool, so for all you people who have experience of conventions: HELP??

I have never been to any sort of convention, so what will we be getting for our entrance fee?

[Assume I know nothing, which about conventions is true anyway!]

Hey there, I attended SG4 which was my first convention. You can expect lots of queuing depending on time of arrival. Sitting on your bum for quite a while waiting for those brilliant stars to make an appearance. Lots of laughs, friendly peeps especially if you meet up with any peeps from here.

We had a brilliant time. All tho squashed at times in the hall when stars appear. It was a brilliant atmosphere.

Have a fantastic time.

I really mean I know NOTHING about conventions... so what would I be queuing for; to see what; what sort of appearances?

When we first arrived at the convention hotel we had to queue for our 'official' passes. This are badges you keep on all weekend to prove you have paid your cash to be there at the convention. These are worth keeping. Ours had a Simon Thorpe pic on.

The stars are obviously the special guests who are allocated times for when they will speak to the audience ie:- You and many thousands of others. Plus you can have a photo taken with whatever star you wish, but means queuing to put your name down and being allocated a numer then queuing again when your numbers are called.

Also the guest stars do autograph sessions whereby you are called by the number allocated to you by your ticket number when first arrived at the convention.

It can get very busy at times. An idea might be is to take your own refreshments and a snakc of some kind if you are staying at the convention all day(as we found food/drink to be quite expensive).

Thanks. I have just seen "Galaxy Quest"...

So - which bits are "real" (w.r.t. conventions) and which were just too exagerated?

I think if you can afford it you really should try and go...

You at the moment will pay around £60 for your weekend pass to the convetion. This will give you access to all of the talks the guests do, the disco's and the closing party, it will also give you a chance to have the autographs of the guests going!
You also have the choice to pay for a photo of yourself and the guest you choose. Other things that go on are also the dealers room..which is great if you have loads of money to spend on stuff from SG1 and other scifi shows.

Yes there is a lot of waiting around and standing in lines waiting for stuff to happen..but I found that was the time you got chating to other fans.
Its also a great way to meet others that love the show just as much as you do!

You can find out more stuff from the wolf website and chat to people on the forums there!

I had a great time at the two that I have been to and Im a littel sad that SG5 will be the last full weekend convention that Wolf do!
:D
