Looking for names, amazone-sounding names!!

Okay, this may sound very stupid but I'm looking for names that sound amazone-like. I'm writing a fanfiction for Stargate and I'm doing something with amazones and therefore I need names. Lots of names!!

Okay, I don't really know if this is the right place to post this thread but I was thinking maybe Xena-fans know those things. If you could just give some names or a place where I can find them that would mean a lot to me.

Thank you,

Falcon Horus

Difficult to say, since there was no pattern for Amazon names on the show. Hippolyta (from the Herc TV movie) was a mythological Amazon, and Lysia (Lucy's role) was a Greek name, but that's about it.

Stephen Sears, who wrote most of the Amazon episodes, admitted that he made most of the names up. "Melosa" for example, was just a root word for "honey" in Greek. "Eponin" was after a character in "Les Miserables." I *think* he said "Ephiny" came from "Epiphany" but I may be wrong. "Messalina" was a Roman empress. "Chalapa" came from the Taco Bell "chalupa" - seriously! One of the Amazons' names came from a girl he was dating at the time - I think it was Velasca, and his girlfriend's last name was Velsaco. (But again, I may be wrong.) I *think* he said "Solari" just came from "sun." "Cyane" is a shade of blue. Other names- Terreis, Varia, Erys, Amarise.... I think he just made up because they sounded cool!

So my suggestion would be - get a French or Spanish or Italian or Greek dictionary - and then just find words that sound cool to you - and make them into Amazon names! :)

Hey thanks a lot!!

Hadn't thought of that yet!! I'm going to give you a place in my author's notes.

I'll even let you know when the fic is ready so you can check out my creations. :)

Hey I just took a peek at your profile, and discovered a couple of interesting things - you are studying archaeology, for example! So did I! I was a classics major, so it was more literature and language than anything else, but still. I got to spend part of my junior year in Italy, and visited tons of cool sites. :) Also I noticed you're from Belgium? Soo cool! Are you one of the French-speakers, German speakers, Dutch-speakers, or Flemish speakers? Or all of the above? ;) Several waaay cool Belgian girls visit another forum I go to - SF-Fandom.com - similar divisions of topics like here. Come visit some time!

Hello again,

I live in Flanders near the Dutch border, so that makes me a Flemish-speaking girl. If you're interested in Belgium, this is the official website -> www.fgov.be
I just started archaeology. It has always been my dream to become an archaeologist and discover something that will change history (or something like that). :D I'm really interested in Ancient Egypt, Giza, Tutanchamon, the Sphinx...it's all very exciting to me.
I guess that's why I'm such a big Stargate-fan.
Well, I'm certainly going to check out that forum you recommended.

Greetz,

Falcon Horus ;)
