Summary of Season 1, epys 16-19
1:16: A Human Reaction.
John thinks he found a wormhole to Earth, and leaves the crew, but when he gets "home," he finds out that Farscape 1 left a wormhole open to Earth that can't be closed. He arrives in Australia, and is met at gunpoint by the military. The crew of Moya comes looking for him to make sure he's o.k. Interrogated and caged by a paranoid world-wide military operation, Earth treats them with the same paranoia we treat everything we do not understand . . . and gives you something to think about.
It turns out this is all a test for John. A race of aliens called the Ancients are trying to find out if they should use their last energy to go to Earth (as opposed to another civilization) to co-exist with their people. The Ancients used Crichton's mental imagery and impulses to guide the events to see if humans would welcome them . . . and they found out how paranoid we truly are. The military disected Rygel (Aeryn: "Even Peacekeepers don't kill their enemies to study them."), and took D'Argo off to another area of the planet. Aeryn and John escaped with the help of his dad, who the aliens created (Adam-12 actor, Kent McCord). And, in his dream, John & Aeryn finally have sex. We finally get to see John make up his mind about Aeryn, which is interesting because it is easy to forget she is an alien. When John figured out that he wasn't really on Earth, and the crew had been treated very well by the Ancients.
1:17: Through the Looking Glass.
Moya, frightened by the crew's discussions of leaving her due to her lessened abilities because she is pregnant, goes into starburst to prove she is able, and she isn't. She gets stuck in starburst, and divides up into four Moyas: the original, one of sight (red-D'Argo), sound (blue-Aeryn), and really bad jokes by Rygel and Chiana (yellow-"Ignore the green slob"). It first appears that some type of monster is trying to kill the crew, but it is an entity that keeps time and space in sinc, and which is trying to help them.
It is Crichton who finds the doorways between the Moyas, while the Zhaan and Chiana are unusually afraid. Chiana tells them some type of experiments on her world failed, resulting in this type of schism, which tore entire planets apart. We see the differences between all of the characters/species by how each Moya-world affected them. The red/sight area made John and D'Argo hurl, but didn't bother Chiana. The blue/sound area put Chiana in unbearable pain, but Aeryn modified headsets used in battle for she and Crichton. Everyone became addicted to bad jokes in Rygel's yellow Moya. And this epy is when John first uses Chi's only real nickname, "Pip" (which is Ben's nickname for Gigi). The end result is the crew becomes much closer . . . and Moya gets ready to have a baby.
1:18: A Bug's Life.
A Peacekeeper commando unit ("success measured by body count") boards Moya because their ship is leaking, and the crew, in an attempt to disguise themselves, pretend to be prisoners with Crichton as a Peacekeeper Commander and Aeryn as his Leftenant (leather all around). The leader of the commandoes is an old (and very good looking) "friend" of Aeryn's (Larach), and we learn she was waiting for a transfer to such a unit when Crichton showed up in her life (Aeryn said to Crichton that his people probably didn't have such efficient killers on his world. He told her we do, either serial killers or linebackers, depending upon whether they are amateur or professional). The commandoes have been infected by a virus that can leap from person to person. The person infected doesn't know when he or she is carrying the virus, and can't control what the virus does while in their bodies (John kills one of the commandoes). A person cannot be reinfected after the virus leaves the body. The virus wants to get to the nearest Peacekeeper base in order to infect more people.
As expected, they all end up pointing weapons at each other. Zhaan creates and injection that forces the virus out of the body, and the virus eventually leaps to Larach, who takes Aeryn hostage. He stabs Aeryn, leaves her bleeding on the deck, and makes a run for her ship. D'Argo stays with Aeryn, and as Crichton runs for command, he has Moya begin starburst, which creates a fire that follows the leak and blows up Larak's ship. And Aeryn wakes up with Crichton watching over her.
1:19: Nerve.
Part 1 of the 4-epy Season 1 Finale
Because her peripheral nerve was damaged by the Larach when he stabbed her, unless Aeryn gets a graft from a suitable donor, she will die. The only place to obtain a graft is at the nearby Gammak Peacekeeper Base, and Crighton insists on breaking in. A Gammak Base is guarded like the preverbial Fort Knox. Although everyone knows this is suicide, the crew is close enough now that no one really argues with Crichton in order to save Aeryn. Posing as a Peacekeeper, with Chiana along to help (she had stolen an ident chip from the Larach - full security clearance), playing Crichton's "companion" (and keeping the male Peacekeepers busy at the bar), Crighton successfully gets into the base and finds pk tech Gelina is there, who helps him obtain the graft for Aeryn.
This is the first time we meet Scorpius, who makes Crais look like a pom pom girl. Scorpius finds out that Crighton has certain knowledge that he wants about wormholes. Scorpius has a torture device called the Aurora Chair, which is a machine that rips memories out of your brain. Scorpy is accompanied by Niem ("Peacekeeper Barbie"), a beautiful, incredibly thin female with long red hair, who runs the controls as Scorpy questions the victim. And we also meet Stark for the first time, playing insane so the Peacekeepers leave him alone, he turns out to be one of Zhaan's friends.
