Tom and Jerry shorts have actually won 7 academy awards, which is more than any other cartoon!
I read somewhere that when the cartoon first began (back in the 40's I think) that the audience weren't too impressed with it.
In fact that called the idea "stupid" and that nothing could be done with a cat and mouse.
In the original shorts Tom was called "Jasper" and Jerry was called "Jinx"
One thing that never changed was their constant cat n' mouse chase that continued for years!
Tom was always my fav, but the guy always had it tough. Especially when the maid would chase him while screaming "Tomassss!" Then hit him with the broom.
