Colonel O'Neill is charged with the murder of a politician, and the rest of the team must uncover a conspiracy to clear his name.

i love what i've read about the spoilers for this one. it's an idea i used in a fic a couple of years ago...i can't wait to see how the show does it;

oooh oooh oooh post the spoiler please! more details, must have more details!:D

looks like it's Senator Kinsey who bites the dust . . . yyyyyyyiiiiiipppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! :laugh2:

This was taken from Gateworld.net...

In the season's 14th episode, Senator Kinsey is shot -- and all signs point to Colonel Jack O'Neill as the culprit. After Jack is taken into custody, it's up to his team to find out just what really happened.

"A sniper assassinates Senator Kinsey, and SG-1 is stunned when a video camera captures Colonel O'Neill's face as the perpetrator. Has Jack gone over the edge and taken out the presidential candidate?

"Carter, Quinn and Teal'c investigate to try and clear O'Neill's name, and discover that the rogue element within the NID has been using -- and selling -- alien technology under study at Area 51. One such piece of technology is an alien mimic device, left behind when an alien incursion into the SGC failed three years ago ('Foothold'). The device is worn on the chest, and allows the wearer to disguise himself as another person -- complete with voice and memory, if used in conjuction with another device.

"An NID operative named Agent Devlin is charged with the task of killing Senator Kinsey, perhaps because his shadowy superiors have learned that O'Neill is holding NID secrets over Kinsey's head ("Chain Reaction"). Devlin uses the device to impersonate O'Neill, framing him for the murder -- and is soon ordered by 'the Committee' to put pressure on General Hammond to retire once again, so that they can replace him with someone more suited to their program.

But who's behind the conspiracy? Will Hammond be forced to resign again, now that the senator is out of the way? ... And is Kinsey really dead?" (GateWorld news report)

and isn't it interesting that such an evil character is called "Agent Devlin?" Dean Devlin... ring a bell?

"I think that [MGM] would rather do movies based on the television series than based on the first film. I just think that's a choice. I mean, they've got a big franchise and they want to support it -– I can't blame them for it. But it's too bad, because parts two and three of the movie would really rock."--Dean Devlin quoted in IGN Filmforce interview.

I read that AT husband is appearing in one episode. I think this is the one, but don't quote me on that! :D

I've not heard that. Interesting. In the past, she's refused to permit pics of her husband to keep that portion of her life private. I was not aware he is an actor.

Well for all of us in the UK this would appear to be the next episode.
Should be quite a good episode.

This is it, if what she said at the Sydney con is true. Look at the firemen very closely...one of them will be Allan.

Well, just finished watching this...it wasn't without flaws, but it was one of the best Earth-based NID eps I've seen so far. I'm no good at summaries, so I'll leave that to Anni ;) . I loved Teal'c's 'bad cop' routine (as he did it without a word), and Carter's 'partnership' with my new favorite NID operative (who I think the 'shippers will like)
I'd give it an eight out of ten...it would have been more, except for several glaring plot holes.

Thumbs up from me!

This is an Earth based, NID conspiracy episode, but I agree with Raptor that it is probably the best one they have done, despite a few flaws in the plot. It’s fast paced, and they have more of Jonas and Teal’c as a new comedy duo.

It is an election year, and Senator Kinsey, who is running for President, is assassinated. Jack was on vacation in a remote place (fishing not specifically mentioned) but we see him in Washington, immediately following the shooting, leaving a nearby building. On his return to the SGC, Jack is arrested fro the murder. The FBI has CCTV footage of him in the staircase of the hotel opposite. He was also seen throwing a bag into a lake. The recovered bag holds a rifle, which is a ballistics match for the murder weapon. Also Jack has the motive.

Hammy suspends SG-1’s off world duties to investigate. SG-1 determines that the mimic devices may have been used. Sam visits Area 51 and discovers that despite heavy security, one of the devices held there is a fake. Jack obviously could not use the ‘Alien mimic device defence’ in court, so the outlook for him still looks grim. As the 'scanning device' has not been taken, only the 12 individuals originally duplicated in 'Foothold' can be mimicked.

Sam visits the NID and speaks to Agent Barrett. Because his office is bugged, he meets her later in Stanton Park at 3p.m. he tells her that a shadow organisation within the NID has become a cancer. It is responsible, and Senator Kinsey was working with him to expose the individuals concerned. Kinsey didn’t do this of his own accord, he had to be bribed to take part.

Meanwhile, Jonas and Teal’c find that, Dr. Brett Langham, one of a team of 8 scientists who have studied the mimic devices was meant to have died three weeks ago, and Janet finds information that the Coroner missed to determine that it wasn’t really him. This allows them to have some fun on their own. They find him impersonating one of the SGC officers who were mimicked. Jonas using his photographic memory spots him, Teal’c who has supposedly seen this man every day for 6 years does not.

Look out for the Teal’c punch.

Jonas: “How di you learn to drive.â€
Teal’c: “It was Daniel Jackson that instructed me.â€
Jonas: “When was that?â€
Teal’c: “I believe the year was 1969.â€

Eventually, Langham gives information about the NID agents responsible, and says that alien technology has been routinely taken from Area 51 to be copied and used commercially, and that large sums of money are involved. He didn’t realise that this would be used to commit murder.

Sam and Barrett visit an arms dealer where the rifle was purchased. Sam asks if the shooter handled another rifle. He did and they purchase it (with some loose change in her purse, apparently). They get two sets of fingerprints from the rifle, neither match Jack, the partial set match an NID agent called Mark Devlin. Barrett feels Sam is holding things back, but Hammy says that she cannot tell him about the foothold situation. They look for Devlin, but find a booby-trapped house, and only just escape before it explodes.

Barrett believes someone in the SGC must be leaking information. Sam tells him of the foothold, he in turn, reveals that Kinsey is alive, but in a coma. Major Davis is on his way to interview Kinsey. Major Davis is one of the 12 people who can be mimicked.

The last part gets complicated, if a little obvious. Told in flashback by Devlin to the syndicate of NID agents, all is not as it seems.

What really happens is that Sam and Barrett reach Devlin (as Davis) before he gets to Kinsey. (Despite the urgency required, Sam must have flown back to Area 51, and picked up the Scanning Device for the Mimic Device, then scanned Devin, all in about 10 minutes or so), because she now impersonates Devlin and uncovers the syndicate members.

Kinsey now exonerates Jack in front of a press conference, saying that it was all part of an elaborate plan to expose the shadow organisation. He says that he is now certain to be President. Jack refuses to smile.

Next episode 8th January 2003. (Look out for Barrett dying very soon!!!)

I really enjoyed this episode, it was a good earth based ep. I was at work when it was on so I had my dad record it and I watched it when I got back at 11:00, worth the wait me thinks :D
Much better than last weeks ep
I can't wait till the next ep - Paradise Lost, its going to be very interesting:
Its showing on Jan 8th in th UK of Sky One:D

i throughly enjoyed it. and the opening music on the download was a RIOT! thor in a santa hat
LOL

vern has waaayyy too much time on his hands.

teal'c and jonas were great together. These two guys have fantastic timing and....well two droolable guys playing gunshoe. very nice.

I loved sam in charge and, is it just me or does the really, really enjoy sticking it to the NID? Little payback maybe?

Loved Davis being the baddie and getting to whack some folks around. Great job with continuity

I gotta wonder, had MS not left the show, would he have been the assassin?

there was a plot hole big enough to drive a truck through though.

Jack says he was in minnesota, a good 800 miles or so from colorado (we dont' know how far north his cabin is in the state)

i'm assuming he drove his truck...which couldn't get more than about 20 miles to the gallon or so...which meant he had to stop and tank up at least twice each way. Chances are he used a credit card (unless he likes carrying around tons of cash. It'd cost about 30-50 to tank that baby up)
and chances are there is video surveillance in the convenience stores that also caught him on video, thus giving him an alibi...an alibi no one thought to explore

D'oh, hate when that happens <G>

as to allen, AT said he was a fireman...i didn't see any firemen. Changeling however seems to take place, at least in part, in a fire house. Maybe she got her eps wrong

I really liked this episode, what a great one to end on until the UK picks up again next month.
I enjoyed the relationship between Carter and Barrett. I did think they were building to something more romantic though. Maybe he will make an appearance next season?
I was so glad they didn't kill him off.

Am I correct in believing that Jack was only in this episode for like 5 minutes because RDA is wanting to spend more time with his family these days?
I'm actually glad that Jack wasn't in it that much. It was a good episode and it gives me faith that they can produce good episodes when one of the fav characters is missing.
I was a little disappointed with the ending. I wanted to see a goodbye and a handshake (or more ;)) between Sam and Barrett, but I guess Jack stole the ending.

Still, great episode!!

This sucks! How come us Canadians ALWAYS have to wait??? We haven't started S6 yet. It's bloody filmed in my backyard!!! Heck, I've had to update the drainage info in Stokes Pit where they film lots of their blast scenes here in Surrey! I'e only seen the first half on mini vision computer downloads. This Sucks! I can't even download them without getting a former roomate/ not really friend anymore, to download & burn on CD for me...:( I wanna see this on:(

i have cd burning abilities...would you like me to burn you copies and send them to you skoon?

I agree with others when they said that this was the best earth based episode I have seen!

I thought this was a great episode...it had me gripped from the start.

Very good one loved Teal'cs line that Daniel tought him to drive. Im also likeing the Teal'c and Jonas stuff...its great to see more of Teal'c this season.

Good one all round, can't wait for it to be back in the new year!

:D
