Hmmm, that superconductor thing . . .

Ok, granted that my field is 18-19th century North American history, but based on something Sam said in "Prodigy" the gate acts as a superconductor, which I thought was a giant magnet spinning really fast.

Wouldn't that be "bad" for metalic and mechanical things passing through the gate? Digital watches? M.A.L.P.s and other probes? Weapons? (I shudder to think about the lads' zippers  )

um technically yes, but it isn't a generator... which means that its a superconductor in the fact that it will take energy in any form... so it accepts those electrons and then uses them to make the stable wormhole.

Mine is Reetou Diplomacy, but that never stops me having an opinion on SGC technical issues... ;) :D

My dictionary defines superconductors as metals, typically at very low temperatures, which have negligible resistance. Therefore, any electrons getting in tend to travel with no release of heat, so it can handle huge quantities of energy without warming up.

well yes i know that , but i was talking about the EM feild generated by teh gate....

also your very right about the build up,

but the gate can overload if it is given a constant flow ergo.. season 6 episodo's 1 and 2, the gate is given a constant flow of a very small amount of energy so it can't release it.... and then after a few hours. BOOMB!

The manual "Diplomacy For Representing The Interests of Reetalia" doesn't include too much on EM fields, especially in superconductors.... hence the omission...

So if the gate acts as a giant superconductor, wouldn't a magnetic field be constant, regardless of the absence of generation?

Is that why in the film and early eps the team always arrived feeling cold and looking frosty? And what has happened to that frostiness?

probably yes , just it with teh gates huge capacity it wouldn't be very large, because it would disrupt things like teh staff weapons... so the field would have to be small or atleast low energy.....

and yes webmouse that might explain why they were cold, basically they got used to traveling..

well if you think about, does you digital watch skrew up when you go near a microwave?? or your computer????
cause they both generate an eltrical field... so really it wouldn't do that much...

No, I just don't recall ever leaving my watch in the freezer and seeing if it was fine after frosting ;)

lol even, but you get my point the amount of time that a watch would be exposed the the field would be insignificant because as soon as the gate shuts down the field is gone, like in teh episode where the first meet Cadat Halley (or is it hadley) anyways its teh same principle..
