Has anyone read this authors books? What did you think of them? What is her writing style like? What kind of fantasy stories does she write

I got my hands of The Amber Citadel from my library. Some good ideas in the book, but a bit slow and detailed for me

Have resurrected this thread, as I've just realised that I've read 4 of Freda's books - the first 4 of her 'Blackbird' series. I got them when they were first launched back in the late 1980s - they were excellent. According to her website, they are currently being re-released by Immanion Press, who also publish Storm Constantine.

Her Jewelfire Trilogy is currently in my 'to be read' pile. I'm a little embarrassed by this, as I bought them and got her to sign them for me while I was at Worldcon last year. They would certainly fit into the 'epic' category, as they are fairly weighty tomes. If the style is even close to being as readable as her Blackbird series, then I'm sure I will enjoy them as well.

I didn't realise that Freda had been quite as prolific as she has. With 17 titles to her name, she is clearly no slouch. I'm sure that Brian will get on well with her - she's a true Goth! Here's a link to her website and you can check out her impressive list of titles:

Thanks for the link Mark I think you're right about her work falling into epic fantasy. I found the book I read quite detailed.

I've scanned the first few pages of The Amber Citadel, and it appears to be in a totally different style to the Blackbird series. On her website, she alludes as much. I think you'd find Blackbird in Silver a great read, I remember enjoying it immensely. I bought each of the next three as they launched, and I've not followed series that avidly often.

Unfortunately, I lent the first four books to someone, forgot who I'd lent them to, didn't get them back, got distracted by other authors, and somehow just lost track of what Freda was up to. It's very annoying when that happens ... and it's happened a few times.

I've read Court of the Midnight King, an alternate history based on Richard III.I found it a very intriguing and excellent read, but that could be due to the fact that I'm competely fascinated by the life of Richard III and will read anything concerning him.I do have some more of her books on my too read pile just haven't got round to reading them.
