Superheroes take all shapes. This unlikely one was born as a creation of Welsh weekly comic Sali Mali in 1981. More amazingly he was an overnight success, spawning more than two dozen comic books before the publishers, Siriol Communications, partnered Hana-Barbara (1989) to produce the animated version. Browising through websites (6000 listed by Google!), he is known in at least thirty countries!

The character is a cute teddy bear, discarded in the last throws of manufacture as defective. He is rescued by Spotty and taken to the planet Spot where he discovers his secret powers and 'Magic Word'
From there he vows to protect Earth from the dastardly villain Texas Pete and his dubious cohorts Skelly the Skeleton and Bulk.

Ray! I had forgotten all about Super Ted

And you know what - those links have proved that you really can find anything and everything on the net!

I loved this show when I was younger. After you mentioned it I got vivid memories of it, especially the start. Now I can't help to think that there was a talking banana in it.

Here is the USA. Super Ted was released in the very early 80's (Think Beta) on Video by walt Disney. I saw a few of those toons. they were good from the blips I can Remenbers it least. He was next to Rainbow bright.

No doubt about it Super Ted was very popular.
Perhaps the best known Welshman after Tom and Catherine Zeta Jones, but definitely above Harry Seacombe and Shirley Bassey.

If only there were a few more like it then there would be a whole new generation of Sci/Fi fans, not only to expand the comics market but enlarge the books as well.

The follow on from Super Ted, Pingu, about a penguin never really made it.
