I am more than a bit annoyed, not just by the opprobrium heaped on the heads of those who dare to voice their objection to the addition of Quinn to S.G.-1, I am also sick and tired of the blithe assumption that that objection is solely a reaction to the departure of Dr. Jackson.

For the last time - positively the last time - it is not.

It is all down to the question of National Security, which I am not going to restate here, so you can all breathe a sigh of relief.

So just, please, stop caning those who feel that Quinn is a non-starter in S.G.-1 as some kind of lachrymose die-away teenagers mourning the loss of their 'eye-candy', because we're not!

If you want proof, check out some of my fiction. You'll find a number of stories set after the death of Dr. Jackson. They're good. :D Go read them if you haven't already. Specifically, read ' 'Brane Child', in which S.G.-1's fourth member is Nyan.

And perhaps someone would care to tell me why Nyan was passed over in favour of Quinn. He's already proved himself by putting his own life on the line to save S.G.-1, and was then dragged through the Stargate by Teal'c (I think) who knew Nyan had burnt his boats by his action. He's since been working under the aegis of Dr. Jackson for two years. Yes, O.K., probably Richard Ian Cox wasn't available. It's the principle of the thing I'm driving at here.

Alternatively, try 'Poles Apart', my latest complete fic. which introduces Frankie as a potential fourth member. She is not a Daniel clone. ;)

I've even written a couple of fics. in which Quinn has a starring role...

That's it. Done now. Not coming back so you can say what you like. To quote Sir Peter Teazel in Sheridan's 'The School for Scandal':

"I go now, but I leave my character behind me."

Best wishes,
Hatshepsut - the thoroughly brassed off.

Hatshepsut, if you go away being thoroughly brassed off, how are we supposed to tell you how much we value your opinion or like your fiction? :(

Here's another side of the coin. If people don't like him....which is fine...why do they spend so much time talking about him and why they dont' like him?

sometimes the sheer negativity of this part of the forum is enough to make me just hit the little x in the corner and go away.

Well Skydiver, maybe it's because we're sick and tired of being flamed, insulted, and told that we're 'hysterical and hormonal'.

As for talking about Jonas, when you see a formerly good show made unwatchable, its only natural for the fans to discuss the reason why.

I'd also like to know why the moderators have done nothing about Garron's extremely insulting posts towards anyone who doesn't like Jonas. I wonder what the moderator response would be if someone spewed out similar venom towards S/J shippers. Something tells me THAT wouldn't be allowed.

Perhaps I'm more analytical than most (comes from doing too much historical research :) ) so the character of Jonas puzzles me. I'm not angry about the change, just bewildered.

I keep thinking I OUGHT to like him. He seems personable enough and I understand from a theatrical POV why the writers would start him off with handicaps and hurdles to overcome so the character has a place to go. But something just hasn't been presented -- yet I hold out hope -- to make me really care about Jonas.

I may be looking for vulnerability. It isn't a characteristic that I expect from Jack or T'ealc (quite the opposite, in fact) and although Sam is military, I just assume some aspect of sensitivity of a female character. So where does that leave Jonas on my emotional scale? Nowhere, so far -- mostly because the writers have yet to give the actor something to work with.

There was a level of conscience that Daniel brought to the team. I don't expect Jonas to replace Daniel, but I do think that some of those elements need to be present for Jonas to win me over.

And it isn't a matter of hormones for me, my dears. I'm happily married and very motherly. Perhaps I'm waiting to see if Jonas needs a mother :D

i actually do expect to see vulnerabilty in jack and teal'c and really appreciate when they are allowed to show it. i don't like when military characters are shown as stoic one dimensional action heroes. that was one of the wonderful things about abyss - they let jack be human.

You're right, Gategeek. It is nice to see the softer side of the macho characters, probably because it is unexpected. And what they do in those impossible situations -- only one way out and it isn't going well -- is what keeps me watching.

The trouble I have with Jonas is that so far not much at all has been presented. I have no expectations, no concerns, no apprehensions, no emotional connection -- yet. I'm still hoping that the writers give Nemec a script where he can shine. :kisses:

where is garron being rude?

as much as we try, moderators can't be everywhere.

if he's breaking the rules, he needs to be told so.

I know i do my best to read posts, but this is a huge forum and it's easy to miss stuff.

there's a little 'report this post to moderator' option. that sends an e-mail to the moderator then we know to do something about it.
