John Quixote game space question

If you saw this ep you know about the game space john and chi were in the entire ep. I just have to ask how did they get to the space? I thought I knew but I don't. My other question is what was the real Zhann? The more I think about it the confusing it becomes.

They entered the game space by putting their hands on a strange shaped squishy looking thing. I think Chiana names it but I don't remember the name.
And I'm not sure what you mean by the second question. When John figures out who the princess is, he frees the real Zhaan(Virginia Hey) who was inside the big fat guy and speaks to her.
