Just wondering why Sam has to keep her hair short where as the woman taken on the Pilot ep. by Apophis had long hair (she just tied it up)?

I wasn't aware that she HAS to keep her hair short. Seems to me AT did something different with her hair a couple seasons ago. And then there was all that flack when MS decided to cut his hair.

So who does make the rules on these things? :)

I'm trying to recall what one of the military AF advisiors (Msgt. Giannazzo) said at the con about hair. Somethign about the women having to have it out of the eyes and off the collar??? Someone check me on that... What I do recall is that he did get to laughing and telling us that RDA's hair got a lot out of hand towards Into The Fire and that's one reason we see him with severe crewcut syndrome from then on.

Hair

Hair regs.

Tidy and contained [means not teased or fly-away], ends must be 'off-the-collar'. If long, must be put up and cotained with plain, neutral colored hair accessories [black or natural rubber bands, as close to matching color to hair color or tortoesehell[sp], etc ]. contrasting colors or bright colors are not allowed. Bangs must be tidu and not hang over into eyes.

There have been times that Sam's hair has not met regs. Tom came on the set one time, mentioned it and AT went over to makeup-hair and had it trimmed on the spot.

I'm having an air force basic training flashback.

I remember some of the women with hair down to their waist. And the struggle for them to put it up and still wear a cap in a the very short amount of time we had to get ready in the morning..

There were a lot of hair cuts in that group. I cut mine before I joined up. ;)

Probably the reason why I wince everytime I see a woman on tv who's supposed to be in the military with their hair hanging all over the place.

:mutter:

Article 35-10 broken again

I think I'll choose to continue to be concerned about (1) how my tax dollars are being spent by the military; (2) where the money is truly going and how many little wars in tiny foreign places we are funding; (3) whether those we are at war with have nuclear and biological weapons; (4) the safety of air travel.

The hair just isn't a priority, girls.

Yah. I caught a few of the History Channel's basic training series and yep, that would be a pain. Pressed for time seems an understatement.

And Texanne, not that we stress about the hair, but SG I think holds the distinction of being the only AF supported TV show at the moment. It's specially ported over the the guys working out of the US and I'm sure it's a water cooler conversation for all the SF fans in the AF over there wether hair is right, hats are on, and supposedly secret files are left unattended. :D

but you dont wanna get shot coz you couldnt see coz ur fringe was in the way.....

i was in the st. johns ambulance and the air cadets as a kid (kinda instead of the brownies) and we had to have our hair back and out of the way. we were only allowed to wear black or neutral hairbands.

my mother's a nurse and she has the same rule.

The AF regs aren't very different from those imposed on girls in a British school I attended in the 1960s. Short hair could not touch the collar; long hair had to be neatly braided or tied back with neutral or black bands. The real pain was for those girls whose hair was longer than collar length, but not long enough to stay tied back. They always looked a mess :)

hmm, how come I never got a message saying anyone answerd this thread! skoon mutters tio self...well thanx for answering. So what do those girld with hair inbetween do? Break the rules 'til their hair is long enough to tie back? Stuff it in a cap?

Well, at Godolphin School, the girls just got nagged a lot by the prefects and the teachers, so they were constantly combing and tying back hair that was too short to stayed tied back.

No idea what happens in the military, but it sounds like hair cuts would be the preferred solution. :(

In-between hair

You trim and pin it alot. Most women who already have short hair try and wait until they have a long leave to grow it out long enough to get up.

The flip side to this:

There were quite a few women [percentage wise] in my unit that had long hair. Being a 1000 bed unti with 750+ nursing staff, it adds up. That never made sense to me as it was a hospital unit, but hey... it was their hair.

When we were deployed to Desert Shield/Storm, some of those got their hair cut, but probably 75% didn't.

Until the first SCUD alert in Rhyiadh, SA and we had to put on our MOPP gear for real.

The next day *every* one of them had a friend cut their hair. It's hard to get a good seal on your field protective mask with long hair. It can be done, but no one wanted to deal with the 'learning curve' if they didn't get it right the first time.

And nerve agents don't give you a second chance.

One of the many reasons my hair was always short while I was in.

It is only hair after all :)

Which is how I explained to my son's father that Ian's natural dark brown hair was now a different color (he only went as far as blond).

And when Ian got tired of dealing with the roots, etc. it all got cut off and is now terribly long stringy and dark again. I'm now waiting for the purple with orange streak look that is so popular with his friends.

So what do the hair regs say about changing the color of your hair from whatever it is on your ID?

hair color

It's not a great idea. If someone in the chain of command decides to pull an 'ID inspection' [everyone in formation pulles out thier ID card and their dot tags to show they have them on their person] and something doesn't match... you are in trouble.

And to be honest... you just don't usually have time to keep up a major hair color change on active duty unless you're in garrison and are a clerk or something.

At least I figured I had better things to do with my time off that ditz with my hair. Some do... but your average 'fashion plate' doesn't go in to or stay in the military long term on the average.

I'm not saying that you can't take the time to be attractive, but 0530 PT does put a damper on your makeup and hairstyle.

JMHO - YMMV.
