Tim Minear, the executive producer of Buffy spin-off show Angel, headlined by David Boreanaz, has revealed that Sean Astin is not only a huge fan of a show but that "it looks like he might be directing an episode for us this year". Though Minear made this claim in a situation where he didn't feel he had to guard his words, the chances of Astin directing an Angel episode look very good at this point.

I say good luck to him.

Yeah as much as I like him as an actor, if he does get to direct, I really hope he does a good job at it.

I can't tell the difference between when experienced directors and actors direct tv shows. I doubt I will be able to tell the difference this time. What does encourage me is that he is a big fan (yay! what great taste!).

Will a guest star spot follow? Or will he insert himself Peter DeLuise style?

I can generally only tell if the directings really bad or really good. I hope he guest stars, he is an actor afterall.

BTW I was just looking at IMDB and Roxann Dawson (Torres from ST: Voyager) will be directing an Angel episode in season 4 aswell.
