I just e-mailed a scientology organisation which Corin Nemec just happened to be involved in, and I got a reply saying that he was really busy coz hes got the lead role in Stargate for the next 5 years.

Can anyone verify this?

Sounds to me like either (1) Corky wants an excuse not to communicate with Scientologists for some reason or (2) someone over at SG1 production and marketing is very optimistic (one may assume that the 5 years includes possible film schedules and not just the TV series)

I doubt many actors would be interested in a one year only contract. Five years may be some sort of requirement for actors of a certain value. Should the show fold before the five years, then the company would have to buy out the remainder of the contract.

I'm wondering if MS had reached the end of his five year commitment and decided not to renew, thus forcing the change that has caused so much debate.

From what i've heard, that was how it happened. But he had indications early on. Around the end of Season 1 or the beginning of Season 2 he told brad wright <or somebody up there. I can't remember who> that he didn't want to stay in the same role. It mentions it in the new TVZone magazine special.

I also heard somewhere before that he didn't want to be typecast. As far as i'm concerned he already is. If i see something with him in it, i think to myself, "hey! it's Daniel. No wait a minute. Micheal Shanks."

I figure if they don't want to be "typecast" they should be in movies instead or make their next project as successful as their last.

Typecasting -- the bane of an actor's existence.

On the other hand, a steady job is a steady job. Tough choice either way -- the art or the money. The serious actors take the risk and go for the art. Seems that MS is in that latter group and I hope he finds all the different roles he seeks. Its no surprise then that he's been in a lot of independent films.

Maybe he'll be in the spin-off series?

ooh! i hope! he *does* look pretty good in those t-shirts.

but i think it is slightly more wishful thinking on the side of the production company.

o well....

If MS is seriously concerned about typecasting, then it is likely he'll stay as far away from Stargate as he can get -- with the exception of the movie role, of course :D. He'll do conventions, because they take little time and keep his fanbase happy, but his projects will range far afield.

If MS wants steady work, then typecasting is a risk he'll have to take. Consider that we all still think "McGyver" along with "O'Neill" when we consider RDA. He has done some other acting, hasn't he? But those roles don't come to mind. RDA's longest running hits are what we remember. MS has to take stock of his career and decide if the gentle-geek role is what he wants forever more. Having seen him in "Suspicious River" I know he's capable of so much more and wants us to see those other abilities.
