I only get to watch the show infrequently, but I 've noticed that the team now carries what appear to be FN P90 personal weapons. I've noticed M9 Beretta pistols and M-16/M-4 rifles/carbines. Any episodes feature shotguns or any other type of small arm?

In "The First Ones" they are confirmed as FN P90s.

They have certainly used shotguns (pump-action) against the replicators, as well as a possibly shotgun weapon with a round magazine, much like a 30's tommy gun.

Some of the weapons that we have seen have included:
Berretta M9/M92 Pistols
H&K MP5
FN P90

For the life of me cant think of what the weapon O'Neill had in 'Allegiance' is called and Carter had a nifty weapon in 'Forever in a day' that I cant remember what it is called either. They did have shotguns in 'Nemesis and Small Victories' yet again their name escapes me.

As for small arms, Id just prefer a Zat gun ;)

I assume there is a proper military term for the "bazooka" in "Forever in a Day", since the MAT hardly qualifies as "small arms". :p

Hey

Im quite a weapons expert, so if you want to know anything just ask.

In Nemisis and Small Victories. The USAS (has different names but the usual is Universal Semi-Automatic Shotgun) was used. The USAS is powerful and does not require the cartridge to be 'pumped' into the firing chamber like Pump-Action shot guns use.

SG-1 started with the use of the Heckler & Koch MP5-A5, quickly moving onto the more tactically equipped Heckler & Koch MP5 RAS.

Finally moving onto the Fabrique National P90. The ultimate SMG in my opinion. Hopefully we will continue to see this amazing weapon being used....

I'd heard there was some issues with the feed jamming under rough use. Hardly what I'd want in the rougher conditions the SG teams are under.

While you've got all the cool lights and laser pointers able to be mounted on the P90, it's a lightweight composite, and has all the newer ammo technology and stuff like that going for it-- the MP5's/M16's had a few more add-ons like the grenade launchers and double-capacity mags sometimes seen in the show. (There's a a very involved thread over on gater.net about arms.)

In another discussion, it was theorized that the Intars seized from the forces in Rules of Engagement are a far better thing to be carrying around. Less lethal than a zat if improperly fired, the target gets knocked out but is still revivable in case it was all a falure to communicate.

The disadvantage being that against your tougher, or armoured foe. In those situations a go-down-and-stay-down weapon is essential, rather than something that will take half a dozen shots, or more...

The P90

950 armor piercing rounds per minute. Made a superstrong polycarbonate material weighing only 2.8kg when not loaded. Firing chamber made from carbon enforced titanium with steel pin brackets. As you already know, horizontally loading magazine with bullets stored at right angle to firing direction. Intial bullet velocity is 735m/s. The P90 uses specially designed 5.7x28mm armour piercing rounds.

The upper sight assembly can either be a fibre optic red dot scope or a telescopic fibre pin scope.

Two side rails usually housing a laser sight and flashlight.

One amazing weapon....

I always thought the SPAS 12 looked rather menacing. Although it's kind of heavy, complicated, and doesn't carry that many rounds (used to own one), it looks good on film.

Would firing projectile weapons in the confined environment onboard a ship pose a significant danger to the USAF personnel from ricochets? As the wall materials would be extremely hard there would probably be a tendency for slugs to bounce off surrounding surfaces in random directions which would be particularly dangerous in narrow corridors. Anyone know exactly how hazardous this would be in the situations SG1 get into?

Well, every time they use the SPAS and the pump-actions, they always put on those eye-protectors... only time they seem to think about Health & Safety.

May be the M72A2.

Y'know, I think the last time I saw Teal'c use his cannon was 48 Hours. After that I seem to remeber him going back to his staff. Too bad; I liked the canon. Maybe he still has it, but it doesn't seem like he carries it with him everywhere anymore.
Or can anyone tell me a more recent episode when he had his cannon with him instead of his staff?

He certainly doesn't use it again in the rest of season 5, after "48 Hours", but I can't comment on season 6 (which I've not seen).
