Stargates Companion show in trouble (Contacts & Petition re: Farscape Cancellation)

'scapers ...

I just heard and I'm blown away. Scape had approved funding for S4 and S5.

Scary frellin' stuff.

Ben Browder (Crichton), Richard Manning (Producer, writer), and David Kemper (Producer, writer, brains-behind-it-all) came into the chat room today and announced that the show has been cancelled. The transcript is at http://pub136.ezboard.com/frpgfarscapefrm1.showMessage?topicID=105.topic

If it's not a ratings stunt, it's a early April Fool's joke. These are the men that should know whats what. It's odd because they'd been rumored to have signed on for a 5th season as part of the 4th's renual. But, that sort of thing can be open to changes in audience and ratings, after all. Or, like Stargate has seemed in the past, the Farscape ideas have dried up and it's time to move on.

There is already a campaign to save the show the same way SG fans pulled for the 6th season. Thoughtful and courtious emails, letters and calls are being made to the SciFi offices. :)

If anyone has an email or snailmail address, now would be a good time to post it. :crying:

I think this is going to be an active topic at Gatecon. I can't wait to see what some producers think of their companion show getting the axe. What would this mean for a SG season 7 options? Or the spin off? Inquiring minds want to know. I can't wait to get up there.

The Con

I'll see folks up there. I'm headed out in about 6 hours to drive north.

if I didn't get this completely wrong, the show won't even have a decent ending ... with the last episode of season 4 being a cliff-hanger, which would have found its conclusion in the 1st episode of season 5! that's just ... scifi disgusts me more and more by the day.

and I doubt they'd have even the slightest scruples to axe stargate as well if they'd find some other show they thought would draw that li'l 0.2 extra rating points in audience. it happened before, it can happen again.

farscape is an outstanding show, creative, different, unique. what a loss.

good question. The past SciFi scheduling is to have the cliffhanger sometime in September, hiatus during October through December (with some reruns), a four-part season finale in January, with the new season kicking off in March.

?

So basically shows are bought by SCIFI Channel and the schedule is so unusual the producers, writers and directors go insane. It finally makes sense! :)

Call Bonnies voice mail and do the following:

Call 212-413-5000, press 1, type in HAMMER or (426637) and leave a message just like you would if you were writing a letter to scifi

as a writing hint~

If you watch another show on sci-fi--mention it. It shows you're interested in the network, not just one show

Keep it short, sweet and professional
Point out that Farscape has been a consistent ratings winner
Remind them of the Saturn Awards
If you provide them with your age, gender, race and occupation your letter gets a higher "hit value" than one without this info.

From the schedule lineup it looks to me like SciFi is really focusing on promoting Stargate SG1 -- which is great. I don't want to see Farscape cancelled, but I wondering if we can really have it all.

There is a risk that a big push for more Farscape could affect plans for more Stargate. We should consider a little research into WHY SciFi decided against Farscape S5. Just ratings? Budget? Demographics? Internal disputes?

Such information might lead to better informed letters and not risk either of the series we enjoy.

I'M a bit confused here! Last I heard, Farscape was renewed for 2 more seasons. (4 and 5). Has there been some kind of report otherwise? We know it's in hiatus until Jan. 2003.
