Showtime SG1 site is dead

When you go to the web site, there is a message saying they have completed their run. Anyone still go there?

I liked that site. It was a wonderful resource for my trivia group wheever there was a dispute.

The only hope is that someone else will pick up the site, we should attempt to find a way to get someone else to pick it up, say FOX or Sci-Fi.....

Oh yeah, also, go to Sho.com/stargate, then find the ask a question, and do so. We should flood them with our unhappiness with what they have done.

AM really not happy about this. If petitioning showtime would help I'd do it but they no longer have the rights so that's no good.

I had stuff in comms that if I'd had warning I could have moved elsewhere.

OK, moan over.

Other than not giving us a warning {we all knew it was coming} and by warning I mean a close date I will give Ryan his due here and now, he created a great site and I for one am very sad to see it die. Hopefully he'll be able to rebuild elsewhere.

The message said MGM is going to do something regarding the site. I wonder if it is a full transplant of the information.

The last I heard was allegedly a direct qoute from Ryan saying he knows nothing about future MGM or Sci-fi plans. Also that he is the only one who knows about all the coding on the SGC so they would have to go to him if they wanted to run it. He said they are just getting the domain name to the best of his knowledge.

This is all second hand although it was meant to be quoted from an email Ryan sent.

Dont suppose that we could actually get a direct direct quote from ryan to his loyal fans and post it here, give some closure to the rumors?

I totally agree Gypsy, I think that we all knew that a site closure was inevitable, but a closure date would have given people enough time to save anything they needed (i.e. comms & e-mails) and say their goodbyes.

It's gutting when you have invested so much time & effort as I did, and I know you certainly did! I never did catch you up with all those Generals

If the site ever does come back again, I would wonder whether it would come back with the database still intact or whether people would have to start from scratch. Although that's IF it ever comes back, which we can only hope it will.

It would be nice to have the database intact but I suppose if it didn't we'd all have something to aim for. Getting back to BC again. Just glad I achieved the last aim I set before the site went. Getting to fleet admiral.

Well, the site was fun while it lasted :dead:
I guess we all saw what was coming when Showtime abandoned the series. But I agree that a little formal warning would have been the decent thing to do.

Hiya fellows in Mourning, I lost 6 generals,a 1st Ltn.,a master sgt. an basic airman and an entire unit!! I FEEL YOU PAIN!! I have already contacted SHO.COM and experessed most of the consternations expressed on the thread. I also raised the issue that the stand to lose potentialy over a 1/4 Million subscribers over this issue (approx. # of registered site members)
I encourage you to vist the site and express your displeaser. It might make you feel better !! LOL I can mail you the page directly, it is hard to find on their slow site. E-mail me @ Host9@webtv.net and I will send it to you. LET BLOW UP THIER MAIL BOX!! Especially those of us that have MPD (multiple personas disorder LOL)
Any who the MGM site is up, and has been since seas. 6 started, Goto MGM:stargatesg-1. Good for a few download, but it is not the SGC!!!

I lost 1 Base Commander, 5 Generals (6 units in total) plus 7 other personas, so I understand the frustration!

Although there may be have been approx 250,000 registered users of the SGC, with people like me on there (with 13 personas!) it isn't a very representative figure of the actual number of users of the site. I would expect the actual number to be around half of that figure, and perhaps half to two thirds would be from the US and able to recieve Showtime (an educated guess). I would therefore expect the loss of subscribers to Showtime to be in the tens of thousands rather than hundreds.

You are correct nontheless in that Showtime will still have alienated a significant percentage of their customer base, and potentially lose those customers.

I would presume (?) that Ryan will have a back-up of the current data on the site, including email/comms.

Is there anything stopping him re-locating the site to a new host, but disabling everything except access to comms/email? Just to let people move their stuff somewhere else?

I know of a great site that is currently offering webhosting at very competitive rates - similar subject/theme too

He should be able to do that as long as showtime will let him. That is if they still own the rights to the site. They may even have sold those on when they sold the show. ALthough it is possible Ryan may have had a clause in his contract saying the rights will return to him. Would have to find out exactly what the situation is with that to know what he could do.

I think showtime got all they wanted when they asked everyone to update their files for a few bonus points. Showtime got all that information and then just tossed us out like yesterdays lunch.
